Dead Rising 3 - Tips and Tricks for Getting Started

Updated: July 1, 2021

Before you play the Dead Rising 3 game, you will definitely want to know these simple but useful tips and tricks. If you have any tips feel free to share with us!

Things to Know Before Playing

  • You have way more time than in the previous two games. It's trivial to hit every psychopath and sidequest in Normal Mode with plenty of time left over for collectible hunting.
  • Headshots one-shot non-psychopath enemies. Some of the special infected can be bullet spongey but if you can dome them it'll save you the hassle of 2-3 strong melee attacks.
  • Always use combo weapons. They last longer, hit harder, generally have better attack patterns & provide additional PP.
  • Many collectibles are on rooftops. Trucks are climbable. Parkour jumps are makeable.
  • You can get rid of a follower at a safe house survivor bulletin board. Conversely, get in a vehicle & drive far enough away from them.
  • Standing on a ledge or vehicle makes you nearly invulnerable. Zombies generally won't climb up to get you and they rarely hit your ankles.
  • Food combos are either hilariously overpowered or worthless. Repulse make you completely invisible to zombies, and Energizer means you don't take damage. Spitfire, Quickstep, Nectar and Zombait have no real use cases, and Randomizer seems to skew heavily towards making you vomit over actually giving you a powerup (let alone a useful one).
  • The Untold Stories of Los Perdidos
  • The Untold Stories of Los Perdidos aren't really worth playing; each one adds one storyline quest and two collectibles, both of which require traversing the entire map, usually multiple times, while additionally blocking off major pathways between quadrants to stretch out gameplay. Each is self-contained, and the first two of them have surprise Endings (i.e. it's not made apparent that "Hey, this thing you're about to do will trigger cutscenes that end the chapter"). Hope you got all the collectibles, because if not you have to start the story over to get them all!
  • The weapons & vehicles within the DLC are accessible in the main story via weapon lockers & car garages. They're overpowered, but it's at least somewhat offset by the locker limitations.
