Introduction

Before we begin, if you want to get Ancient Coins the best way is to buy it from the in-game store. But we’re not here for that are we? We’re gonna find some Ancient Skeletons and get free coins.

Ancient Skeletons

In order to get free coins you have to kill an Ancient Skeleton.

These Skeletons are very rare to spawn but I’ll tell you how to increase your chances later in the guide.

First of all, you need to know what they look and sound like because you only have 20 seconds to kill them or they will despawn.

This is how they look like:

Reward Tiers

Ancient Skeletons have 3 tiers of rewards you can get.

• Tier 1 => 100 to 200 coins
• Tier 2 => 200 to 400 coins
• Tier 3 => 400 to 800 coins

Fun fact: I found a tier 3 skeleton in my first hour of Sea of Thieves.

How to Increase the Odds

Finding Ancient Skeletons is all about luck but if you take some measures you will increase the odds.

First of all, visit more island and don’t just run around for 20 seconds.

You need to be on the islands for a while and run all around them and be active but don’t spend more than 30 minutes on each island.

You can do Gold Hoarder vaults or Order of Souls voyages because they will make you visit more islands and you won’t get bored.

Fishing is also a good activity to do on islands or you can just collect resources for your ship.

Keep in mind that Ancient Skeletons spawn more on bigger islands because there is more ground that they can spawn from.

Final Note

Some final points you should remember. Don’t forget that you only have 20 seconds to kill Ancient Skeletons and they will run away from you.

You also can’t kill them with throwables. Ancient Skeletons can also spawn in forts but not in outposts.

Spawn rates increase when they are more players in your server much like the reaper’s chest. So if you’re in a dead server the odds of finding an Ancient Skeleton are lower.
