Crimson Sword Saga: Tactics – Full Walkthrough

Here are some hints for a hard+ walkthrough. An obvious hint is to reach Lv10 as soon as you can so you can promote your units, for most of them the gains are really great! Healers are vitals so don’t let them die or the game will be really difficult (or impossible to beat).

Tutorial

All credit goes to David Nguyen!

You start the game with Abel. Pascal and Ami will join the next turn. Like most maps the key is to take on one enemy at a time and heal with Ami. Stay grouped because the support bonus gives a nice boost to avoid and precision. Ami should stay out of range of enemies. The thief in the south will rush you so take him down with Abel and Pascal. The red house will give you a Heal.Leaf and the other house gives you informations. The house in the middle will freely heal you but it is better to heal with Ami so she can get EXP too. Once you defeat the Bandit, the Archer will rush you. The mage on the bridge won’t move so take her down after dealing with the archer. Finally the knight and mercenary will move out only after you crossed the bridge. Take them down. Note that if you lose Pascal or Ami here you will still get them later.

Difficulty: 4/10

Scenario 0

Quite a sad scenario. It was supposed to be only a cutscene but to play as the victims add more cruelty to it in my opinion.

Difficulty: 0/10

Scenario 1

A somewhat hard scenario. John is the only one who will rush you. The other will only attacks units in their range. The key here is to take down one enemy at a time with David and heal with Issal. Cyrus is probably the hardest enemy to defeat, just let him attack you with his closed ranged weapon so you can counter attack and heal. It requires some thinking at the beginning but once you defeat John and Deanna, the rest should be quite easy.

Difficulty: 7.5/10

Scenario 2

Recommended units: Cyrus, Abrala, Abigail and Issal or Zeke. Do not bring Deanna!
The east squad will charge. Take Paul first because he is the real danger. Make a wall with your sturdy units who can counter attack at distance (Cyrus, Abrala, Abigail) and try to take down as much rangers as you can. Of course heal with Isaal/Zeke. The sand will slow down movement of all units except flying units so use it at your advantage. You can take down the south rangers with Cyrus who can be annoying quick with their long range bows. Jeremiah should pose no problem once you have defeated all the rangers. You will get the Art.Bow and Lux tomes.
Bonus: you can have additional lines if you fight Paul with Brenda.

Difficulty: 7/10

Scenario 3

Recommended units: Cyrus, Brenda, Abrala and Zeke.
I really recommend bringing Zeke, gives him the Physic staff and gives up on Issal.
The two squad will charge. Take the eastern squad first because they are closer. Now here is a strategy to defeat easily a squad. Bring Zeke in the squad range, move him to a forest with David, Abrala and Cyrus near him. He will have a 80% bonus to avoid! The knights will charge him because of his low DEF but he will avoid most attacks thanks to his avoid and will slaughter unit with the Lux tome! Of course there should be other strategy but it is very effective!
Seth should pose no problem once you have defeated all the knights.

Difficulty: 7/10

Scenario 4

Recommended units: Cyrus, Abrala and Zeke.
If you bring these three, the map should be a breeze! The mages have long ranged magics but if you stay grouped you should avoid most attacks! The map is harder if you don’t bring these characters. Take down the mages as soon as you can with long range weapons and you should be fine. Achab and his generals should pose no problem once you have defeated all the mages.

Difficulty: 3/10 (if you bring Cyrus, Abrala and Zeke) 7/10 (otherwise)

Scenario 5

Recommended units: Cyrus and Zeke. Bring Brenda!
The enemies are all flying units, Brenda will take them down with ease! The three nearest squad will charge you. You need to carefully plan your formation or you can lose some units. Focus on taking down as much enemies as you can and shield your weakest units with more sturdy units! The only challenge is to defeat the three squads without losing units, the rest is easy. Since there are no forest, Zeke can still be hit by enemies even with supports and the gryphon knights have DblStrike which makes this even worse. The three dragon knights near the cave will only attack when you are in their range. Lance guards the cave entrance, won’t move and he is quite easy to defeat.
Bonus: you can have additional lines if you fight Lance with Cyrus.

Difficulty: 8/10

Scenario 6

Recommended units: Cyrus, Brenda and Zeke.
The mercenaries will rush you. The pirates will only move when you are in their range or when you have defeated all mercenaries. The generals will only move when you are in their range or when you have defeated all mercenaries and pirates. Of course the key here is to take one group at a time. If you are not careful, you can lose some units because of the CritBonus of mercenaries and pirates. If you plan your formation well you should be fine. You get awesome weapons after this scenario!

Difficulty: 6.5/10

Scenario 7

I suggest giving the Gungnir to Cyrus but Deanna may need it more, the choice is yours! You will finally play all characters! Visit the house near the castle for a second physic staff. All three forces will rush you! Luckily the north bridge is broken so you have to deal with the south and east force first. Stay grouped for the support bonus and heal with Issal or/and Zeke. I really like to use John on a forest with David, Cyrus and Abrala near him, with Gram and his speed he will have crazy avoid, and can slaughter an entire squad! Since there are no more maps with this team, losing characters is not really important at this point! (or if you are a purist who wants a deathless run!)

Difficulty: 7/10

Scenario 8

The goal of this map is for Abel to escape. You can get some extra EXP for Abel and Pascal. They are clearly no match for the enemies and sadly you can’t change the issue of this scenario.

Difficulty: 0/10

Scenario 9

This map is not really difficult but can be quite long. Apply the same strategy as the tutorial. Here is a reminder: “like most maps the key is to take on one enemy at a time and heal with Ami. Stay grouped because the support bonus gives a nice boost to avoid and precision. Ami should stay out of range of enemies.” The enemies in the west and south will only move when you are in their range. Visit the red houses for another Heal.Leaf, the useful Bolt tome which is effective against flying units and the Flame Sword. Reedel isn’t hard as long as you have Ami to heal.

Difficulty: 6/10

Scenario 10

This map is not really difficult but can be quite long. All the enemies will charge. Abel should equip the flame sword and stay at his initial position. Heal with Amy and attack at long range with Pascal. Use Heal.Leaf to heal Ami. The most important threat is Miriam and she can kill Ami or Pascal if you are not careful enough. Once again the key to win is to plan well your formation.

Difficulty: 6/10

Scenario 11

Note that when I playtested I had a bug where Arthur and Abel didn’t show up when I saved and loaded. For this reason Abel and Arthur are not mandatory for this map (while they should be). Bring them because you can’t defeat Drazini otherwise. Not a too difficult map. All the enemies near you will charge. Use Abel with Tyrfing and Arthur with Ichaival to take down the south enemies. The red houses give the WindCut tome which is the most powerful regular tome, the last Heal.Leaf and the AntiDevil sword which is effective against devil creatures. Pascal can attack skeletons with fire and devils with Bolt while Athena should fight with AntiDevil. Of course heal with Ami. The Jonah squad will take down some enemies too. Try to level up Abel and Arthur to Lv 10 so they can promote in the next map. Drazini is a little tricky to beat, the only ones who can defeat him are Abel and Arthur. He will attack the weakest unit who are in his range. Place Arthur in his farest range so he can counter attack. Then heal Arthur and attack with Abel and Arthur and that should do it.

Difficulty: 6.5/10

Scenario 12

This map can be quite annoying. The west and east enemies squad will charge. The dragon knights squad will only attack units in their range or when the other two squads are defeated. Of course the allied rangers will do most of the work. Go to the east or west to defeat the gryphon knights first. You need to carefully plan your formation or you will lose some units. Arthur will overkill most units with Ichaival and Pascal can use the bolt tomes for effective damages. Try to defeat as much units as you can because your units really need EXP too. Cyrus is not too hard but will attack the weakest unit in his range. Just gang up on him with Arthur, Abel and Jonah and you will be fine.

Difficulty: 7.5/10

Scenario 13

This map was once the hardest map but it is a lot more easy now. The squad with Abigail will charge first. Once Abigail is defeated the squad with Zeke will charge. Once Zeke and Abigail are defeated, the dragon knights squad will charge. Cyrus will only attacks units in his range. Visit the red house for an elixir (keep its because you may really needs it to have the good ending) and the blue house for a second physic staff. The key here is to use Abel, Jonah, Arthur and Aaron with their holy weapons and heal with Ami and Rebekah. Stay grouped for support bonus. Go north first. To defeat Abigail use long range weapons first on her (Ichaival and Holy Axe) then close ranged weapons. Without a doubt, the greatest threats on this map are the mages squad and Zeke. Aaron can effectively deal with them under half HP but it still can be a gamble. Abel is the safest choice though. Use these two and eventually Arthur and Jonah for hit and run. The dragon knights squad and Cyrus aren’t too hard, just use the four holy weapon wielders, heal and you should be fine. It can be a wise idea to train Pascal too.

Difficulty: 8/10

Scenario 14

Recommended units: Jonah, Pascal and Aaron. Bring Arthur!
The nearly same maps as Scenario 5 with another team! Use the same strategy and you should be fine. Here is a reminder: “The enemies are all flying units, Arthur will take down them with ease! The three nearest squad will charge you. You need to carefully plan your formation or you can lose some units. Focus on taking down as much enemies as you can and shield your weakest units with more sturdy units! The only challenge is to defeat the three squads without losing units, the rest is easy.” Deanna will guard the house and won’t move, she is really easy to defeat. You should reach Lv10 with Pascal if not already done because he will get the great holy tome Glaciem! Ami gets a recover staff so you can give Pascal a staff of your choice if he is promoted!

Difficulty: 8/10

Scenario 15

The nearly same maps as Scenario 7 but on the attacking side! Only the south and north forces will rush you. Go north or south to deal with one force at a time. The force near David will only move out if you cross the bridge. Do so once you are done with the south and north forces. Be really careful about Brenda in the north force and John in the south force. Defeat them as soon as possible. On the other hand, Abrala isn’t much of a threat. Remember to defeat one force at a time and you should be fine. David is strong but you can fight with Abel, Arthur, Jonah, Aaron and Pascal (if he is strong enough). At this point, you should know that healing is vital and you may have potentially 3 great healers (Pascal, Ami and Rebekah).

Difficulty: 7/10

Scenario 16

It can be a tedious map. Zeke, John and Deanna will rush you. In your first turn you can wipe them out! Overkill Deanna with Arthur, use long range weapons on John and use Abel to defeat Zeke, etc. Abigail, Abrala, Cyrus and Brenda will attack once Deanna, Zeke and John are defeated. If you contain their onslaught, you will be nearly done the next turn! David will only move once everyone else is dead. Use the same strategy than in the previous scenario. Not a long scenario but can take some tries to beat it without losing units.

Difficulty: 8/10

Scenario 17

Recommended units: Jonah, Pascal, Aaron, Arthur and Ami or Rebekah.
The two squads will rush you. The assassins squad and John are the greatest threat because of their murder skill. Send Abel (who is immuned to the murder skill) with Excalibur to effortlessly wipe them out. Abel can also wipe out the ranger squad and Brenda but it would be wise to train other characters too.
Note: if you don’t kill John and go to the boat storywise John will survive and you will get a few additional lines. I am not sure if it is possible to keep him alive without losing units in Hard+ mode. It should be possible on easier difficulties modes though.

Difficulty: 3/10 (if you use Abel with Excalibur) 7/10 (otherwise)

Scenario 18

Recommended units: Jonah, Pascal, Aaron and Arthur.
The two squads will rush you. Devils can be really dangerous because of their Pierce Skill. Druids can be dangerous with their death spell and TargetHit skill but you can wipe them out even before they attack! At this point your units will certainly be overpowered so the two squads should be no problem. The dragon despite having great stats is not very difficult because he doesn’t even move. Drazini is even easier. This map is also a good occasion to train your underleveled units.

Difficulty: 5/10

Scenario 19

The map is a short duel. If Abel is stong enough, there should be no difficulty at all to win this duel. If not you must use an elixir (I hope you kept it!) or Heal.Leaf to win. If you win you will go to scenario 20A and if you lose you will go to scenario 20B.

Difficulty: 3/10 (if Abel is strong enough) 7/10 (otherwise)

Scenario 20A

I will just give you a few hints for this one! The Druid, Issal, Zeke and Drazini will rush you! Once they are defeated, Abigail, Deanna, Abrala and Cyrus will rush you! Finally once Cyrus and Abigail are defeated, David will move out. Since you got this far, this map shouldn’t be a problem!

Difficulty: 7.5/10

Scenario 20B

I will also just give you a few hints for this one! All units will rush you! Only Master will attack the weakest unit in her range. This scenario is harder than scenario 20A, but you should be able to complete it!

Difficulty: 8/10

Enjoy the ending and credits!
