How to Fix
I had the same issues running the game as most of other Windows10 users and after searching for a fix I found a patch.
What it does in creator’s own words is: “This very little tool patches x86 executables in order to let them have 4GB (instead of only 2) of virtual memory on x64 platforms.”
I applied this patch and did not have a single issue with saving or playing the game after.
