The Long Dark – Sawed-Off Shotgun & Machete Locations (Survival Mode)

Where to find the two newest items.

Preparation for the Journey

All credit goes to Zogged!

Firstly, you’re going to need at least 11 skill books. Once you have them, do not read them, just leave in one of the fishing huts in Mystery Lake. Now, let’s head to the Coastal Region…

Into the Coastal Region

Head through these trees (screenshot) and turn LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT and then RIGHT and you’ll see a car on the side of the road near a bridge.

The Car

Now that you’ve found the car near the Gas Station, you need to pop open the hood. Once you’ve got the hood open you’re going to want to set a fire on the hood of the car.

Then, set at least 4 more fires. You’ll typically want at least 2 on the hood, 2 on the roof and then 1-2 on the trunk of the car. I’ll explain why shortly..

The reason you’re putting multiple fires on the car is because these items are guarded by 5 bears and believe me – you don’t want to try and take these guys on!

If the fires go out, then just plant another one.

I don’t have any screenshots of the bear group (because they pushed my ♥♥♥♥ in).

But here’s a screenshot where I thought I captured them (I’m hiding of course) but no avail..

The bears are terrified of the fires, but for some reason (not sure if glitch or whatever) they aren’t scared by one, two or three fires – you need at least 4-5 fires on the car…
