Potential starting area
Water, Food, and Starting Out
Starting Out
Right from the get go you will need water or it will be the death of you. Just run up to the nearest body of water and take sip by pressing E or which ever key bind you are using to interact with the world. once you are good on water look around for a nest containing eggs steals these and run like hell! the mothers not gonna be very happy.
Food / Water
The hunger and thirst in this game is a lot more dangerous then most other games since being thirsty early game can lead to your death in matter or minutes or seconds depending on your health.
Being thirsty makes you lose 4 hp a second and after a few more seconds it makes you lose 8hp then back to 4hp.
Should look something like this 4hp…..4hp…..4hp….8hp….4hp…..4hp…..4h….8hp and continues this until you are either dead or find water.
Keeping your food and water maxed out is normally ideal since it will slow the loss of them making it so you don’t need to eat and drink as much, (Putting points into survival helps with this as well)
Egg’s are a good meal for a starving exile
Egg’s give okay food and thirst, it will save you long enough to find more food and water, but I wouldn’t bet my life on them unless you got tons of them.
Another good source of food when startng is baby turtles, normally found around the nests. they are easy kills, meaning they can be killed with 1-2 punches and looted for: hide, flesh(cook to make roast) and bones.
After snacking on your eggs by using them in your inventory its time to build some tools. Do this by gathering branches, rocks, and planet fiber. All located in bushes, and items on the ground.
Branch
Stone
Bushes for plant fiber
Bushes and other plants can contain Handful of insects or fat grub which can also be eaten.
Character Progression (Levels)
Level Up screen
As you can see there are 7 main attributes, depending on your play style some of these will become very important.
- Strength: Determines the damage that you do in melee.
- Agility: The ability to move when wearing different clothing types. It has a direct effect on armor.
- Vitality: Determines the amount of health you have. (12hp per level)
- Accuracy: Determines the damage done with ranged weapons.
- Grit: Determines the amount of stamina. (3 extra stamina per point)
- Ecumbrance: Effects how much carry weight your character has.
- Survival: This is your ability to live in harsh conditions also affects how easily you metabolize food.
Depending on the attributes you are using will also affect the amount of points needed to level those attributes.
Example: 1-5 strength needs 1 point to level up, and 5+ needs 2 points and so on (have not gotten any attributes above 5 yet so we will put those values in when we get there or we hear about it).
Understanding Icons
Click on the image above to inhance and take note of the icons at the left corner of the screen. These indicate Vitaity, Grit, thirst, hunger, gathered experience and weight. Take notice to the meat and water symbol being blue in color this means you are healthy and this stat will have an extened lifespan. You can acomplish this by eating as much food and drinking as much water as possible.
In this screenshot you will notice they are simple white. Try to avoid this as you use more food keeping your hunger and thirst in the white.
Wild Life and Non Friendly NPC
Through out the world you will find groups of hostile wild lifes looking for a meal. I would suggest staying near the water at the start of the game. This tends to be the safest area untill you are grouped and armed.
Rabbits
Rabbits can be found just about everywhere, they are passive and easily killed with one punch.
Rabbit drops:
- Hide.
- Bones.
- Feral Flesh (can be cooked into shredded roast).
Antelopes
Antelopes tend to ignore the player until they are harmed, which causes them to run away from the player. They don’t run very far away before stopping, so catching them and killing them is simple.
Antelope drops:
- Anetelope head (not a guaranteed drop).
- Hide.
- Bones.
- Savoury flesh (can be cooked into steaks).
Crocodile
These can be found near bodies of water, they are very agressive and tend to follow you for awhile until they lose interest. They do a good amount of damage to fresh spawns, so keep your eyes open for these.
Crocodile drops:
- Thick Hide.
- Bones.
- Savoury Flesh (can be cooked into steaks).
Hyena
These guys hunt in packs around level 10 you can take them no probelm although more then 4 may present issues ending in you losing your gear.
Hyena drops:
- Hide.
- Bones,
- Savoury Flesh (can be cooked into steaks).
Purple Spider
Our purple friend here is no joke his poison stacks at 10 stacks you can expect your health to drain fast. Shield blocking works against their ranged attacks that also cause and stack poision. Best method so far for killing them seems to be making sure their backs are pointed torwards a rock or something that will prevent them from backing away from your attacks giving you the chance to stop their kiting.
Purple spiders drop:
- Ichor.
- Gossamer.
- Feral Flesh (can be cooked into shredded roast).
Shaleback
These guys look tough but don’t be discouraged around level 5 with basic armors and weapons you can take em. Side note, they don’t enjoy you taking their eggs.
Shaleback drops:
- Hide.
- Bones.
- Feral Flesh (can be cooked into shredded roast).
NPC
These people are not your friends, they can be found all over the map in various locations, near bonfires, inside encampments and caves. You must be aware of what types of these exiles are around you, cause a group of archers can easily kill you when you are trying to get to them, yes they are decent shots.
NPC Exiles drop:
- Hide.
- Bones.
- Human Flesh.
- Various materials if you hit (e) on their corpse.
Ostrich
This is no Dodo, be wary of these exiles. These will not attack you unless you get close to them, they can be extremely dangerous since they can attack fast and even sometimes with a large rapid combo that deals a lot of damage.
Ostrich drop:
- Hide.
- Bones.
- Feral Flesh (can be cooked into shredded roast).
Rhino
Rhinos are aggressive if you get too close, other then that, they will leave you alone.
fighting them 1v1 early game might be a challenge since they do moderate damage, so attacking in groups early game will lead to easy kills.
There are indicators that there are 4 different rhinos (not sure what they all are at the moment).
Rhino drops:
- Rhino head. (Not a guaranteed drop)
- Bones.
- Thick Hide.
- Exotic Flesh.

Advanced Crafting / Materials
Coal
Coal is used as a fuel for furnaces a to smelt your ores. Can be found in these dark colored ore’s.
Ironstone
Iron is used it many recipes such as weapons, armor and tools and so on.
Using a stone pickaxe will have to do to start with until you get a iron pickaxe.
(i highly recommend getting a iron pickaxe asap) Why? Cause you can go from 1-2 ironstones per swing to 6-7.
It is a good idea to throw large quantities of iron stone inside the furnace along with coal, this way you can leave and collect other materials while the ironstone is turned into iron bars. Also you can never have enough.
Iron Bar
Iron bars are refined inside a furnace using 3 ironstones. These will be one of your main components in making your weapons, armor and tools and so on.
If you made more ironbars then you need, be sure to save them, they will be used to repair and maintain your stuff.
Reminder the amount needed to repair fully all depends on the durability of the item used.
example:
If you durability is 90/100 you might need 1-2 iron bars to fully repair it.
If your durability is 10/100 you might need 10-15 iron bars to fully repair it.
All depends on the item.
Brimstone
“You can get brimstone from Majority of caves (although lots of harmful poisons that lower stamina and Hp) or from the weird golem looking monsters roaming around further north you go.”- Miyu
Miyu was spot on, if you refer to the map section you can find the entrance to the cave and inside the cave it large amounts brimstone, but be careful for this cave, there is a lot of NPC exiles.
P.S. See Conan Exiles map for some locations.
