Overkill’s The Walking Dead – To Kill or Shove the Walker

This guide will go in to detail what happens when you are grabbed by a walker and if to stab or shove.
I’m making this guide because players are getting down when they should not and to maximize your health.

I’m making this guide because players are getting down when they should not and to maximize your health.

Eedit: All damage values in guide are based off normal difficulty. Damage is increased the higher the difficulty is.

The Guide

What happens when grabbed by one walker?

What happens is you start taking damage. You take about 10 damage to start then the damage increases every one or two seconds you have not killed or shoved the walker. The damage will go from 10 to 20 to 40 to 60 and maybe 80. The walker will not down you until unless all your health is gone.

What happens when grabbed by one crawler?

What happens is you start taking damage. You take about 20 damage to start then the damage increases to 40 and stays at 40. The crawler will not down you until unless all your health is gone.

One walker vs One crawler

A walker has a lower start damage, but a higher increase of damage over time. A crawler has a higher start damage, but a lower increase of damage overtime. Why is this? I think it’s because a walker you can see coming at you were a crawler may not always be seen by a player and the player will start the killing prosses a bit slower.

How many hits does it take to kill one walker or crawler?

If the walker has not been shot or hit by a melee attack it takes 5 hits. If the walker has been shot or hit by a melee attack it takes 2 or 3 hits.

Killing vs shoving when grabbed by one walker or crawler?

Each of your health bars is 50 health, when you kill the walker or crawler it is posable to take less then 50 health. When you shove the walker or crawler it takes away 75 health guaranteeing you lose one health bar. If you try to kill, then shove before killing the walker or crawler it will take any health lost when killing the walker or crawler and add 75 damage on resulting in higher health losses.

Examples:

• If I try to kill and I do it quickly I may only take 45 damage allowing any damage taken to recharge as if I never took and at all. 
• If I shove, I will take 75 damage 
• If I try to kill and shove, I could take 45 damage from trying to kill and 75 damage trying to shove. 45 +75 =120 total damage 

To kill or to shove ONE walker or crawler when you have more than one health bar left?

My recommendation is to kill if you click as fast as you can. If you click as fast as you can it is posable to kill the walker or crawler before taking a full bar of health allowing it to recharge as if you never took damage in the first place.

To kill or to shove ONE walker/crawler when you have less than one full health bar left?

Shove always shove. When you have one health bar left always shove. If you try to kill 95% of the time you will not get the last tab off and just go down. I think at one health bar left the walker or crawler starts at a base damage of 20 or 30.

To kill or to shove ONE walker or crawler when you have less than one full health bar left?

Try to shove but 99% of the time if your last health bar is not at max you’re going down.

What happens when grabbed by more than one walker or crawlers?

You will be grabbed by the first walker or crawler then you will be grabbed by a second walker or crawler. If you are grabbed by a second walker or crawler you will look at them and then look back at the first walker or crawler that grabbed you.

To kill or to shove more than one walker or crawlers?

Depends on how far you are in to the kill. Soon as you are grabbed by the second walker or crawler you stop taking damage and have 2 seconds to shove or you will automatically go down. On rare occasion if you are killing and get grabbed when you have one stab left (4 out of 5 stabs have been done) it will complete the last stab for the kill. My recommendation is to just shove.

Conclusion

• If grabbed by ONE walker or crawler and have more than one health bar, kill.
• If grabbed by ONE walker or crawler and have one health bar, shove.
• If grabbed by more than ONE walker or crawler and have more than one health bar, shove.
• If grabbed by more than ONE walker or crawler and have one health bar, shove.
