How to create custom controller bindings to fix unresponsive controls, especially thumbstick controls for pitch, roll, yaw, and vertical movement.
Create a Custom Binding
This guide is designed to help users create a custom controller binding to fix unresponsive controls, in particular thumbstick functions for pitch, roll, yaw, and vertical movement.
The guide was created using Oculus Touch controllers, but should work with any standard VR controller.
All of this will be performed on the desktop SteamVR application, though it is possible to access these settings from the in-headset SteamVR application.
Step 1: Start SteamVR.
Step 2: Open the SteamVR Settings and select Devices and Controller Settings.
Step 3: In Controller Settings, select Show More Applications, then Aircar.
Step 4: If there are listings under Community Bindings, you may simply be able to select one of these and set it as active and skip the rest of these steps.
Otherwise, select Edit under the Current Binding.
Step 5: Press the [+] next to one of your Joysticks and select “Joystick”.
Step 6: In the Joystick listing, select “None” next to “Position”.
Step 7: Select “Ptich.Roll” or “Vertical.Yaw”. The standard control scheme is Vertical.Yaw on the left stick, and Pitch.Roll on the right stick. You should see the selected setting in the listing.
Step 8: Repeat steps 5-7 for the other joystick (or any other controls you’d like to rebind).
Step 9: Select Save Personal Binding. If you’ve tested the binding and it works, you can consider publishing it to the Workshop for others to use. You should now see your modified binding in the list.
Step 10: Exit out of Controller Settings and try out your new bindings!
