He is the 1st boss in Dark Souls 3. He can be attributed to the tutorial part and you will be able to defeat him easily. Firstly you have to take the spike out of his shoulder. You must attack him at once if you want to take away a big part of his health. He will transform into huge black mass when his health is approximately 50 % and he is absolutely unprotected at this moment. After this the boss becomes more aggressive.
You can parry all his attacks with your shield. They also can be dodged or you are able to try to attack him from behind. You should keep at the distance if your character is a pyromancer/a sorcerer.
