The Outer Worlds – Steal and Pickpocket Guide

More The Outer Worlds Guides:

Stealing

Like any RPG, stealing plays a major part in The Outer Worlds. Whether it is looting quest items, acquiring bits, or obtaining armor and weapons, stealing is one of the most versatile skills in the game.

It is important to realize though, that both stealing and pickpocketing can have some major consequences should you be caught in the act by another NPC. While in most cases you will have the option to talk your way out of the situation if you get caught, some will instantly attack you if your reputation is too low.

That’s why it is important to always keep a healthy distance between you, the victim, and any other NPC’s in the area.

How to Pickpocket

Before you can begin pickpocketing helpless victims across Halcyon though, you must first invest at least 40 points into the Stealth skill in order to unlock the ability to pickpocket.

With pickpocketing unlocked, simply sneak behind your victim and press the interact button. This will bring up a small lock that must be picked, depending on your skill level, this may take several seconds to unlock. Once the lock has been broken, you’ll find any items available to be stolen in the victims inventory.

It is worth noting though, that the higher your sneaking and stealth skills, the easier it will be to steal from victims.

Although pickpocketing can be extremely helpful in The Outer Worlds, it is important to remember that unless you are a master talker and hacker, stealing isn’t always guaranteed to be successful or safe.
