FINAL FANTASY XIV Online – Character Config Settings

Recommendations on Character Config Settings

Control Settings:

  • General > Tick all three options under “Cutscene Skipping”.
  • Target > Untick “Automatically lock on target when initiating auto-attack”. Lock-on is generally a hindrance.
  • Target > Untick “Disable targeting of pets and minions when in battle”. There’s practically no reason to target them.
  • Target > Tick “auto-target according to priority”. This causes skills to select a target when you currently have none. I prefer Closest Range as opposed to Line of Sight.
  • Target > Untick “Enable full auto-target”. Some mechanics demand you to stop all actions which this can cause issues with.
  • Target > Tick “Limit ring movement to targeting range” and “Press action twice to execute”. These two settings make ground-targeted skills like Asylum and Sacred Soil easier to use.
  • Character > Battle Effects Settings. These let you hide nonessential player visual effects (Show Limited) or all of them (Show None) as desired.

Item Settings:

  • General > Set “Inventory Interface” to “Expanded” or “Open All”. This lets you see more of your inventory at once and can help in finding items.
  • General > Untick “Store all newly obtained items in the Armoury Chest”. This is much more a personal choice than the others. It keeps your armoury storage clean of new items for you to look at yourself before adding them to the Armoury. Extremely useful if you’re running dungeons for GC seals.
  • General > Tick “Sort items into sections based on category”. This organizes your inventory when you right-click (Square for DualShock, X for Xbox controllers) > sort an item in it, helping keep track of where things are.

UI Settings:

  • General > Untick everything under “Recommendations”, “Playguide”, and “Achievements” if they bother you.
  • HUD > Tick “Eorzea Time” under Clock Type. Eorzean Time is useful for gatherers as unspoiled nodes and many fish use this clock for availability.

Display Name Settings:

  • General > Tick “Display class or job icons with nameplate”.
  • General > Tick “Apply colors according to role”. This helps in quickly locating specific roles during challenging content.

Hotbar Settings:

  • Display > Tick “Display recast times” and select Type 2. This lets you know exactly when skills with a cooldown are about to become ready.
  • Display > Untick “Enable hotbar cycling button”.

Log Window Settings:

  • General > Untick “Display error messages when actions fail”, “Display recast timer error messages”, and “display altitude error messages”.

That’s all! I really appreciate it if you’ve made it this far. See you in the game!
