Guide to Dealing with Tokugawa Ieyasu
By Nanjiroh.
Tokugawa is a unit that newer players often ask about. “Why is she so annoying?” I’ll be covering this as well as some options to help deal with her on your journey across the Tala continent.
To start with, Tokugawa is the cliché “dodge based” character who doesn’t actually kill you, but at the same time you can’t kill her. This is because Tokugawa’s passive 1&2 both give her dodge (up to 40% additional in total). Additionally, her exclusive equipment (ee) lets her heal for a whopping 20% of her max hp each time she dodges. This can be difficult to deal with; however, there are solutions. Some of these would be:
- Guaranteed/unavoidable effects. So, things like the additional dmg from merlin ult, Jing s1, burn dmg effects etc
- Trapping. This would be things like sand traps(Cleo/Himiko/Nero), bubbling(Nene prison), and robin rooting. All of these effects come with the effect of “enemies trapped in these cannot dodge” so then Tokugawa becomes helpless
- High accuracy on heavy dmg single hit units. Examples of this would be like akechi, Zhou yu. You want it to be a 1-2 hit job because the more consecutive hits needed, the more likely it is for Tokugawa to escape death by dodging just enough times to heal out of lethal range. Note: high accuracy can mean anywhere from 170-200+% hit (relative to how far you’ve progressed overall).
- Plato. Plato is a bit of a special mention due to the context. She needs to be 6* (she only needs 4* for the passive, but you want 6* for the dmg boost), but her passive reduces the healing Tokugawa gets from dodging as well as providing a steady source of dmg. She’ll need to be 200% hit, but it’s a nice luxury option.
Now, I’ll go down each of the contents: campaign, queens tower, and the 4 element towers, and touch on what people tend to do.
- Campaign/Tower. Generally people use fire squad (burn+merlin) for this since it’s the “cleanest” way of doing it without going out too far out of your way.
- Earth Tower. There are a couple different options, but at this time of writing I lean pretty hard on Himiko or Nero. With Himiko, you’ll want to have good speed and hit on her, but if you’re speedy enough, Tokugawa should stay trapped and killed. Nero is the slightly more expensive option. You’ll need 2* to max out her realm skill, but on the flip side, you don’t need as many stats–just sand cage units to perma trap.
- Water. Between Akechi, Nene, and Plato, water has quite a few options for dealing with Tokugawa. The most used/most practical is the Akechi one. A well built Akechi with hit% subs to get to that 170-200+% threshold and pairing her with Zhen ji/medea for multiple attacks.
- Fire. Burn trio (Prom Takeda Merlin),Zhou Yu, Jing Ke. Burn trio is preferred since when played well everything dies and there’s no messy clean up.
- Wind. Robin Hood. 0* Robin Hood is fine, but essentially you want to kill the other units (ideally at the same time), and then let Tokugawa get rooted by Robin. Remember, rooted targets cannot dodge, and wind deals pretty high dmg (when they can hit their targets of course).
And there you have it. Hopefully this helps people who were struggling vs Tokugawa.
