Overanalysis on Egg Tree
By Concentrication (and die).
What if you had the good tree, but instead of hp, the tree gives orbs instead? This event has the same thing where it’s good early in the act and late in the act, but it’s a little more complex then the good tree. Do you need damage? Do you need healing? Do you feel safe enough? Do you not want anything from this? This event might seem simple at first, but it affects the run more then you might think.
The bramball from the first option, along with it costing 10 hp to take, is a random level. What I do in this event to see if I want to take it is to see if I can live with or if I want a level 1 bramball. Honestly, a level 1 bramball is not that good. It’s a 3/5 with 2 self-damage, not that good, but the bramble is still good at 2 stacks. The good thing about taking the bramball from this event is the fact that it saves 50/60 gold, but also the immediate value you get from it if it is a higher level from the event. A 5/9 overflow is really good at all stages of the game, and the bramble adds some extra utility to the already really good orb.
The egg, on the other hand, is the complete opposite of the bramball. Costs no hp, can’t be upgraded, and heals you instead of damaging you. A 5/10 heal is really good, right? Here’s the thing, though: it breaks after hitting a peg. Like it gets removed from your deck. So what’s the point of it? Well, other then the obvious upside of the cake in act 2, where you can get 50 max hp if you encounter Egglin, the peglin chef, you can hit 2 pegs with it at the same time for 10 healing, there’s safety net which gives 25 healing provided you fire the egg into a pit every time you draw it, there’s dull pegs and slime pegs which don’t crack the egg, throwing it into the slime on the slime boss board will guarantee a near full heal but will probably break it, but the biggest synergy is the defresh potion, where all pegs gain morbid, which gives the egg “damage” but doesn’t break it, allowing infinite healing.
Sometimes, you want to leave this event. Unlike the good tree event, there are some scenarios where you skip this event. These include having enough damage to justify not taking the bramball, enough aoe to justify not taking the bramball, and having enough healing to justify not taking the egg. Even if I meet all of those criteria though, I still usually take the bramball because it’s just a good orb. Also, you can never have too much healing, but the egg isn’t an always take because it takes a slot in the orb queue. You might say “oh just break it if it’s bad”, but that still takes a turn that you can’t always spare.
