Peglin – Quick Guide to Gamblin Event

Overanalysis on Gamblin

By Concentrication (and die).

This event is really strange. You never get guaranteed value from this event. If you invest, you might not see this event again. If you go for the chip, you could lose a lot of hp and then not even get value from the chip. It’s a really hard event to decide what to do, depends a lot on your map and deck, so much to think about.

The first option is -2 hp or the chip. Fun fact: because the chip is weighted, there’s only a 22% chance of getting it! So when do you take the chip? Do you take it when you know the mines boss is ruins? If you know it’s dragon? Do you even take it if you have super boots? First, you need to make sure you actually have the hp to spare. Even if you have the hp right now, you have to think about the future. I talked about the healing of the good tree and how good it is, so imagine how bad losing potentially 10+ hp is.

But all of this is just the hp cost, what about the relic itself? The relic makes 2 slots have x2 damage, 1 slot have x1, 2 slots have x0.5, and 1 of the x0.5 slots has fire in it, dealing misnavigation damage. The fire damage can be nulled by super boots, but you still get the x0.5 damage multiplier. If you have something that returns to the top a set amount of times, the damage multiplier and damage only applies to the last drop, when the shot ends. In the mines, if your orb gets eaten by the black holes, there is no damage multiplier applied and the orb deals x1 damage. If you have pumpkin pi, the portal will always be on the x0.5 w/o fire.

The chip is hard to evaluate and depends on your orbs and relics almost 100%. I think it’s more of a win more relic in the fact that dealing x2 damage doesn’t usually do anything unless you have overwhammer or an orb that overflows. On the other hand, a x0.5 damage multiplier kills a lot less enemies. If you have a fight that you need to get out of asap, the chip can just kill you because of you not killing enemies fast enough and dying faster in a few floors.

On the other side, the IOU has little to no risk. You usually want to take this unless you’re in mines or are about to enter a shop. Skulltimate greed has the downside of making the IOU half as good, but the IOU is really good anyway. But how does the IOU work? You get the IOU by investing with gamblin, either by investing all of your gold or half of your gold. The payout is 5x if you find gamblin again in the mines and 3x if you find them again in the castle. The IOU makes you think about if you want your gold right now, if you need it right now, or if you’re fine with potentially throwing it away. Just because you invest though doesn’t mean that you should hunt events a lot more. Maybe a little more, but only going for events will probably make you lose. You just play normally, and if you see gamblin again, you’re happy. Obviously if you have spintrest/spinny bank, you probably never take this, but if you don’t have them, this is almost always worth it.

Leaving is fair in this event, sometimes you don’t want to invest (for example if you’re about to enter a shop) and you don’t want to risk the chip. Not much to say here, if you don’t want to invest, you probably don’t want the chip.

I hope the above information was helpful.
