Project Playtime – How to Play Huggy Wuggy

After about a week of using Huggy, using different strategies, and testing sabotages, today I will bring you the ultimate guide for Huggy Wuggy.

The Basics

To start off, if you wanna play Huggy, save your sprint ability! I don’t think many people know this, but it actually doubles as an instakill (Fun fact: the devs actually broke the tutorial because Huggy’s instakill was removed at one point) Now, Huggy’s main mechanics are pretty simple, you can place mini-huggies, attack, and sprint-attack you use your mini-huggies to keep track of survivor’s locations, either placing them in doorways or on puzzles, your main attack is self-explanatory, and your instakill can be used when sneaking up on or chasing survivors. So, Huggy’s basic game play loop goes like this:

  • Place mini-huggy.
  • Find survivor.
  • Kill survivor either with main attack or instakill.
  • Place survivor into pit.
  • Mini-huggy finds survivor.
  • Find survivor.
  • Kill survivor either with main attack or instakill.
  • Repeat.

Mini-Huggies

Our fuzzy little friends here (despite being called useless by many) are actually one of huggy’s greatest strengths, in monster games, half of the battle is finding and keeping track of survivors, and mini-huggies help a lot with this, allowing you to find survivors without them having to fail a puzzle. Now, the main reason why these allies are called bad is because they can never find survivors, I can see why these people are saying this, but in reality, the problem isn’t that the huggies can’t find survivors: it’s where to place them. The best placements for these little guys are mostly in hallways, although puzzle towers are also viable, hallways make it so survivors either have to take alternate routes, significantly slowing down the survivors puzzle-solving, or having to take the blow of Huggy instantly knowing where they are. And towers can make it so the survivors can’t complete their puzzles without the monster instantly knowing where they are.

Killing Survivors

Although seemingly simple, survivor chases can be incredibly strategic at times, as well as precise. Finding survivors is easy enough if you know how to use mini-huggies, but actually killing them is the real challenge. To start off, make sure to use your instakill whenever viable, never use it for gaining distance unless the survivor is going to use a crash door, in which you must use your sprint, or the chase is basically over. However, in some cases, crash doors can be useless to survivors, because you can just take an alternate route and meet the survivor when the paths meet between the alternate route and the main blocked-off one. Footsteps are also very important, making some chases where the monster would normally lose the player into the monster killing the player.

Sabotages

Sabotages basically remove any problem for monsters, players run away when seeing you? Use the living nightmare sabotage! You’re going to lose a player because you have to drag another one into a pit? Use the feeding frenzy sabotage! Crash door spammer? Lockdown! Now, although there are many great choices for Huggy here, the best one for his specific play style is the Feeding-Frenzy sabotage allowing him to finally unlock his full potential for fast-paced game play and multiple kills at once. However, if you have trouble with any of the other problems previously mentioned, use another sabotage if the trade-off seems worth it.
