Scathe – Official FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who are the creative minds behind Scathe?

Damage State is made up of a team of just 3 people! Scathe started out as a passion project between Chris, Tim, and Manuel, who previously worked in the AAA gaming sphere and who have a staggering 40+ years of combined experience in game development.

  • What type of game will Scathe be?

Scathe is a bullet hell FPS set in the fathomless depths of the underworld. In order to navigate the infernal maze, you’ll have to dodge wave after wave of projectiles while tactically taking out hordes of demons.

All of the levels are handmade, but there are countless pathways through the maze, so which enemies and zones you encounter will depend entirely on the route you take. After all, there’s no GPS signal in Hell!

  • How many times can I take a scenic trip to the underworld?

There’s no one-way tickets here! Due to the maze-like nature of the map, there are multiple pathways you can take, which means each playthrough you do will be unique. We encourage you to do multiple playthroughs, so that you don’t miss any zones, items, or enemy types!

  • How many friends can I drag to Hell?

Scathe will feature 4-player drop-in/drop-out online co-op, so you can play with up to 3 friends or 3 total strangers (who then hopefully become friends). Nothing bonds you quite like slaughtering demons!

  • If I’m playing with my friends, how do I stop them from abandoning me in the darkest pits of the abyss?

Don’t worry, we have a full proof system to keep your party together! All players must stay within the same level until you are all ready to move on, so there will be none of this “let’s split up” horror movie nonsense.

  • Why do I need to wipe the blood off my face?

Face-wiping in Scathe will provide the player with certain benefits, which have yet to be announced. Make sure to wishlist so that you don’t miss out on the big reveal!

  • Will keybinding be in the final game?

We’re all about customised experiences, so keybinding will absolutely be included in the final game.

  • Will all of the weapons have unlimited ammo like the Hell Hammer?

As much as we love bullets (we are a bullet hell, after all), all of the weapons except the Hell Hammer will have limited ammo. The Hell Hammer is the first weapon you’ll find and will serve as a great back-up when ammo is scarce, so you’ll have to use your other weapons wisely and conserve your resources if you want to survive the onslaught. Think of it like the first pistol you get in most FPS games, except this gun packs a hell of a punch!

  • What are these glowing red things I keep picking up after I blast through an enemy?

Those are soul shards! In the demo, they are a way of keeping score, but they will have a special function in the final game. We can’t reveal what it is just yet!

  • What am I supposed to do with all these shiny runes?

Runes are the key to unlocking new areas in the maze. If you want to escape the fiery underworld, you’ll need to gather as many as possible!

  • Have the secrets of the underworld been fully revealed?

A little mystery goes a long way, so we’ve kept a number of features in the game hidden for now. Over the coming months, we’ll be unveiling a host of awesome in-game features, such as new guns, new enemies, bosses, and a unique gameplay feature that we’re keeping top secret!
