Tips and Tricks for New Players
General tips
- Don’t be afraid to use consumables when needed.
- Look at the boss and build your team accordingly (for example if you start in desert, you shouldn’t go for caster comp unless you know what you’re doing).
- If you know that you’re going to lose against a boss anyway then get a pale heart and you will survive the loss if you had all hearts.
- You can utilize your hearts as a resource, sometimes planning a losing fight leads to a benefit (for example if you know that probably you are not going to win devil deal fight even without accepting, then accept it and “intentionally” lose).
Personal tips
It means that they are working for me but not guaranteed to work for you (it depends on a playstyle)
- Think ahead (what am I going to want from the shop, how much gold do i need for it, Do i want to get a couple of common units tier ups before the rarity upgrade or should I try to fish the uncommon I need).
- Recognize the roles of your units, who is the carry, who is the main tank, who is a placeholder for trait and give items accordingly.
- I’m usually trying to collect the perfect item setup from the start (for example, if I’m playing Dragons, i’ll buy AS items in shop even in act 1 with intention to give them to Brim later).
- Don’t hesitate to actually use items early, even on temporary carries. It’s only 1 gold to remove items (if you don’t want to sell the unit) and it can be the little boost you might need to win a round.
- And also, try things out and learn what works for you, especially on bosses, since they are the only fights that are essentially always identical.
Sometimes, ignoring the “dm’s advice” is also a good idea: against xanathos, putting ranged units on the frontline in front of the zombies is fine, especially if they are your carry, since it puts them at a lesser risk of getting killed by Xanathos early. That being said, it mostly works with Oakenguard spam, which is guaranteed with Gera’s second reward, the one that gives lots of mana regen at the cost of health.
And it is also benefitial, in some comps, not to get new traits but instead go deep in the same trait, even past the requirement for stage 2.
