Easy Donut Shaped Buildings and Spiral Staircases
By Tartinitrotoluene.
Daily theme made me discover a neat little trick to build a structure hollowed out in its center – a “donut” if you will, using rectangular blocks. You can then turn it into a spiral staircase, among other things.
Here’s a step-by-step:
- Start with a circular building, we will use its outer radius: it will determine the center and the width of your structure. Try to get it right to limit later adjustments.
- Place a rectangular block of your desired width and length by clicking on the SIDE of the circle. Make sure it clips on the circle’s round side and not the flat top (cf. my handy graphic).
- The block’s width will determine the “thickness” of your donut. The block’s length will determine the level of steps and detail in the shape. Shorter blocks = more steps = a more detailed shape, and vice-versa.
- Align the next block with the previous one’s corner – Be careful not to drag your cursor when placing the blocks to have a consistent pattern.
- Repeat the process until you have rectangles around the whole circle, completing your donut.
- (The inner circle can be deleted at this point if you want.)
- Finally, you’re now free to adjust every blocks’ heights and elevations individually – as always with this wonderful little game, the possibilities are endless.
