Travellers Rest – How to Use Candles

Candle Usage Guide

So, I see a lot of confusion on candles, so hopefully this clears things up.

  • Candles last 3-5 days, however, most of the time it’s 4 days (from what I’ve personally seen).
  • Candles are not used up per in-game hour, so don’t worry about “wasting” the candle during the day or while you sleep.
  • Unless it’s a personal preference (which is fine), you will be wasting candle life if you pick them up over and over again.

For example, if you place and pick up a candle 3 times in one day, it will be used up completely. It uses up a day when you place down the candle, so doing it all in one day will force it to give you the minimum amount of usage every single time. However, if you let it burn naturally, you have a chance at 2 extra days.

  • It does not matter if a candle is on a candle holder, candelebra or whatever. The candles all have the same chance of 3-5 days regardless.

I’ve included what I’ve noticed from testing about ~100+ candles, but this is still only my guesstimate:

  • The pictures show the different visual stages after being placed for the first time
  • Stage 1 = Day 1
  • Stage 2 = Day 2 – Day 3
  • Stage 3 = Day 3 – Day 4 – Day 5

Candles are so expensive starting out, I wish we had a way to make them!

Please don’t worry! Candles are actually really cheap, even starting out, you should be able to afford 1-3 (at the very least) and still make a profit (especially as it’ll allow you to work more hours per day).

However, it really isn’t necessary to work at night if you don’t want to, you can always do other tasks during the night!

I hope you found this helpful!
