Weekly Family System
Warcraft Rumble has a weekly family system.
Which ever family is active at a given time affects couple things. You can only use the active family’s leaders on a dungeon run – push the dungeon as high as you can before Sunday. But more importantly for you new arrivals; You only see leaders from the active family in the game’s G.R.I.D. (Mini Shop).
When you pick a starting leader and when you get a leader choice from reaching a certain amount of sigils, don’t pick leaders that are currently available in the G.R.I.D.
So, for example, if Alliance is the active family, prioritize Beast>Undead>Blackrock from the leader picks, beast being the furthest away in G.R.I.D. rotation. Just 1 leader per family is enough, e.g. if you already have Hogger then there’s no need to pick Charlga, unless you want to pick her for extra Collection Level progress. Just having 1 leader per family is enough for the Heroic Campaign and PvP. So to recap, once the alliance family week is over and it is Horde week, Alliance then becomes the most important family to pick from leader choices, new priority would be Alliance>Beast>Undead>Blackrock with Blackrock not being very important since you can buy those leaders later from the G.R.I.D.
Collection Level
Collection level is everything.
Collection level increases almost all sources of XP in this game barring the 10xp you get from combat. Using your gold wisely to increase your collection level as high as possible is the best way to progress your account in Warcraft Rumble. Priority for your spending gold goes something like this:
- Buy a single copy of every mini and leader you encounter in the G.R.I.D. that you don’t already have!
- While you are still completing your Common mini collection, you can buy stars for the few minis that you use constantly to get them to uncommon and after that you can get a talent which is a huge help! Don’t botch the talent choice though. Talents cannot be changed after acquiring them, that is until you upgrade the unit to Rare and can then get a 2nd talent.
- Once you have a full collection of Common tier minis and leaders you can now start upgrading random units you aren’t using to Uncommon, and while you do this work your main ones towards Rare.
As a side note if you’re F2P or spending just a little on the game never buy things from the “Daily Deals” section, the section that has XP tomes and upgrade cores. If you are spending quite a bit of money in the game ($200+) you can nab couple Epic Upgrade cores when you see them to prepare for future since they are very rare, but only buy Rare Upgrade cores if you’re running out and need those real soon. As a F2P player you are always limited by gold and stars, you’ll have a surplus of Upgrade Cores soon without doing anything special.
Do not use your gold on those for that reason. XP tomes on the other hand are only worth buying if you’re a whale spending closer to 1k. For the vast majority of us, we get better returns over time for buying and upgrading minis in the G.R.I.D. because of how the Collection Level benefits the account. Gold spend on tomes is gold not spent on upgrades.
G.R.I.D.
It’s in-game shop!
Figured I would leave you guys some tips for G.R.I.D (grid from now on) usage and explain the very basics as well. Mini stars cost 90g except for leaders which are 120g each. When you buy something in the grid the whole row and column gets refreshed. Refreshed in this sense means that it will disappear from the grid and a new mini will take its place, it will drop from the top and any blocks above that destroyed row will move down. The grid also occasionally has XP gems that give XP to the purchased mini if the gem was in the same row or column. The gems are a one time use and their XP value scales with your collection level.
If you want to buy 2 things that are in the same row or column you can move things out of the way before buying! Just select a mini in the grid and next to the buy option you will see an option to move for just 5 gold. The game also naturally refreshes the bottom row at midnight your local time. So, if there’s a mini (or xp gem) at the very bottom that you would like to buy later when you have the gold, move it up for 5 gold.
Talents also appear in the grid for your minis that are of Uncommon quality or higher and have an empty talent slot. Talents cost 250g each. Do not buy the first talent that you see if it’s not the one you want, since you cannot get a different 2nd talent until that mini is Rare quality which can take a lot of time as a F2P or as a low spender.
The G.R.I.D. also sometimes offers you already upgraded versions of the minis! You can get offered all the way to an epic upgrade even if you don’t own that mini yet! The pre-upgraded versions are discounted when compared to buying every star individually. Also you don’t need to spend any Arclight Energy or Upgrade Cores when upgrading this way! Once you have a full common collection I recommended not going below ~1k gold so that you can buy an Uncommon or Rare instantly when it appears in the grid. For an Epic you have to wait and do couple more Surges.
The T-Strategy
An advanced cycling method of the G.R.I.D. that the new minis always drop back in already in a T-formation.
But to put it shortly: The grid is guaranteed to always have 5 minis on it at a time but it can also have more. The T-strat takes advantage of the minimum 5 minis rule. You have to pay a small upfront free by moving your minis to make the T shape (fill top row fully and the center slot and bottom middle slot). Make sure that the mini you want out of the 5 is in the top middle slot.
Now once you buy that mini you refresh all the minis on the grid and the new 5 minis will drop back in exactly in the same formation. From that point on keep moving the mini you actually want to buy out of the 5 to the top middle slot, 60% of the time it costs 5 gold, 20% of the it is already in the correct slot and 20% of the time you have to pay 10g to move it from the very bottom. The 2nd attachment to this post has a visual of this.
Do note that when using the T-strat no XP gems will be dropped, ever. XP gems normally take the place of an empty block going away, when using the T-strat you are not shuffling any empty blocks away.
For whether it is worth using the T-strat or not depends on a lot of things. It is very good when you are on the hunt for just a few specific minis. If you are instead okay with buying a lot of different stuff currently to fill your collection it is not that big of an advantage. You would have to break the formation often to buy 2 or more different units that are on the screen at once. And as an added negative no XP gems will be gained.
