Guide to Weapon Combos

What’s a Weapon Combo?

If you’re blindly doing heavies and lights, or spamming in general, then you haven’t discovered the combo system yet. Most weapons have different attacks if you alternate your heavies and lights in certain patterns. These attacks are often more effective than just doing the basic combos.

If you’re stuck and don’t know how to get better, knowing these could break the limit, so to speak. I won’t write all combos, because some don’t actually do anything. I also haven’t found them all.

All of these findings are backed up by number-crunching the dummies and experience.

This Guide is Ordered by Importance

The listing of these weapons is by character, then order of importance. Some weapons change drastically when you combo with them. Halberd changes dramatically, so it’s at the top of Kruber’s list. Great Axe is another, so it’s at the top of Bardin’s list.

Get it?

Halberd

  • Heavy > Light > Repeat

Repeated stabs. 2.3x headshot multiplier. Furthest reach in the game.

Personal notes: This is one of Kruber’s most powerful dps options, but requires good headshot skill. Soloing bosses is easy if you can repeatedly headshot them. One thing to note is that the stabs have higher headshot multipliers than the other attacks. Also, the heavy stab has the furthest reach in the game, but the light has slightly shorter.

Use against elites, bosses, and stray foes.

  • Push-attack > Light

Repeated chops. Shield breaking.

Personal notes: This is mainly used to break shields.

  • Light > Heavy > Repeat

Repeated sweeps. Horde clearer.

Personal notes: People say this works. I have found no value in it, but maybe I’m just weird. When I horde clear, I usually just use the basic light combo, good pushing, and footwork.

  • Heavy > Light > Light > Repeat

Old combo that was invalidated.

Personal notes: The chop is inferior to the heavy stab in almost every way. The damage is less, the range is less, the headshot multiplier is less, and it’s slower. So, it’s smarter to just repeat the stabs. You may reference the dummies, if you don’t believe me. Be sure to isolate your attacks, so you see the true damage (avoiding the stagger bonus).

I’m putting this in here, because people told me to use this a while ago, and I found a better combo.

Long Sword (Grail Knight)

  • Push-attack to change stance, then Heavy > Light > Repeat

Repeated chops. High flesh damage. Headshots. Fast.

Personal notes: This combo requires a change of stance, before you can use it. It’s mostly good against flesh; against armor it’s only a headshot advantage (which is still good). It’s not far behind halberd shenanigans in damage.

There are multiple ways to change stance, but a push-attack is the most direct way.

Sword and Shield

  • Push-attack > Heavy > Repeat

Repeated Stabs. 2.3x Headshot Multiplier.

Personal Notes: This is basically an executioner’s combo. The headshots are devastating against all foes. You can also alternate between heavy and light, after the first push-attack.

Human 1h Sword

  • Heavy > Heavy > Light > Repeat

Sweeps followed by a chop. Higher Armor Damage.

Personal Notes: This combo allows you to do more damage than what is normally possible to armored foes. The chop is stronger and faster then the heavy sweeps. This is a must-know, as it makes armored foes more tolerable.

Human Spear

  • Light > Heavy (> Push-attack) > Repeat

Sweep focused combo. Horde clearing. Good stagger.

Personal Notes: This is good for keeping a horde controlled. You can throw in an optional push-attack after the heavy, if you want to do two sweeps in a row (this is more important on Huntsman). If the first sweep doesn’t cut the crowd, add the push attack to finish the job.

Human Great Sword

  • Push-attack > repeat

Repeated chops. High armor damage. Fast.

Personal Notes: This isn’t much of a combo, but most people are unaware of this tactic. The push-attack of the great sword is quite powerful, and spamming it is extremely effective against armored units. It is better than spamming heavies, due to the faster speed.

However, the heavies have superior cleave. Use this only in a 1v1.

Great Axe

It is recommended to have stamina recovery with these combos, to allow infinite stamina.

  • Push-attack > Heavy > Light > Repeat

Repeated sweeps. Fast. Horde clearer.

Personal notes: This is a combo that lets you sweep faster with the great axe, than when using heavies. It leaves less opening for attacks, since you are attacking faster. You are also granted the benefit of a push.

  • Push-attack > Light > Light > Repeat

Balanced combo. Fast. Defensive. Horde clearer

Personal notes: This is a faster variation of combo 1. This leaves the least opening for attacks. One attack is a chop, though, so it’s a bit worse for cleaving. You will have to get a feel for which combo to use at different times.

Great Hammer

It is recommended to have stamina recovery with these combos, to allow infinite stamina.

  • Push-attack > Light > Light > Repeat

Balanced combo. Defensive. Horde clearer.

Personal notes: This allows you to do two sweeps with a chop in the middle. Since it is faster than spamming heavies, it gives you a smaller window for being hit.

Dual Hammers

  • Heavy > Block > Repeat

Easy headshots. Higher damage.

Personal Notes: The overhead heavy is stronger than the sideways heavies. Reset yourself by blocking to repeat that attack. Luckily, blocking does not cause enough delay to matter. Sometimes blocking can cause a significant enough delay to not be worth it.

Use this to kill elites or bosses.

War Pick

It is highly recommended to have stamina recovery and bonus stamina with this weapon.

  • Push-attack > repeat

High armor damage. Fast.

Personal Notes: This isn’t much of a combo, but most people are unaware of this tactic. The push-attack of the war pick is quite powerful, and spamming it is extremely effective against armored units. It is better than spamming heavies, due to the faster speed.

  • Hold heavy attack until arms raise higher than normal

Unique trait. Lvl 2 heavy attack.

Personal Notes: This one might be common knowledge by now, but just in case you don’t know. While charging a heavy, when Bardin’s arms move higher, it means your heavy has charged to lvl 2. This is the highest damage attack, although it is very slow. It’s a great opening move.

Elf Spear

  • Light > Heavy > Repeat

Repeated stabs. Headshots. 2.3x Headshot multiplier. High damage.

Personal Notes: This is a must-have for killing armored foes. It’s also really good for headshotting. It’s the same concept as the Halberd’s combo 1. It’s just really good.

Elf Spear and Shield

  • Push-Attack > Heavy > Repeat

Stab followed by chop. High damage.

Personal notes: The chop does insanely high damage, even without headshot, and that’s the whole point of this combo. It isolates that move so you can spam it. Enjoy.

  • Light > Heavy > Repeat

Stab followed by sweep. Horde clearer.

Personal Notes: This allows you to sweep at a relatively fast rate. It’s good for clearing hordes.

Sword and Dagger

  • Push-attack > Heavy > Repeat

Repeated Stabs. High Damage. Fast.

Personal Notes: This combo allows you to alternate between the heavy stab and the push stab very quickly. It’s very stabby and wrecks armor. It has no cleave, so you’re just going to use it on elites or bosses.

Elf 1h Sword

  • Heavy > Light > Repeat

Chop with quick stab. Headshots.

Personal Notes: This is a good one for killing berserkers or bosses. It mostly improves your flesh damage. Against an armored foe, it’s not much different than spamming heavies.

Billhook

  • Tertiary Attack > Heavy > Repeat

Stun followed by chop. Very defensive. Fast

Personal Notes: If you want to stun stuff while dealing damage, these two attacks blend together very well. There is like no delay between the two attacks. I believe you also get a bonus damage from the stagger.

Rapier

  • Hold down block > Tertiary attack

Attack and block at the same time.

Personal Notes: This isn’t much of a combo, but it’s something that most people don’t know. You can block and shoot at the same time.

Flame Mace

  • Light > Light > Block > Repeat

Repeated verticals. High flesh damage.

Personal Notes: This is good for killing flesh foes in 1v1. You want to avoid the sweeps, since they do low damage.

  • Heavy > Block > Repeat

Repeated chops. High armor damage. Also applies DoT.

Personal Notes: This is good for killing armored foes. Easy to plant a headshot and applies a DoT. DoT’s stack 3 times and last 2-3 seconds, depending on universal timer.

  • Push-attack > Light > Light > Repeat

Repeated sweeps. Horde clearer. Fast.

Personal Notes: This is a faster combo for horde clearing. Since you are swinging faster, you have a smaller window of vulnerability. Stamina recovery is required if you want infinite stamina during combos.
