Concord – Gameplay Tips for Star Child

Quick Tips for Star Child

By Machosauce.

Rage Rush Tips:

Quick melee causes star child to end rush with a pimp slap that deals ~100 damage, and knocks people away. Good for finishing off low health targets, or following up on the reset if enemies are out of slam range. I call this the “Pimp Slap”

Jumping while rushing causes a leap. Activate slam at the apex to deal damage at the landing point, since your momentum carries over

Recast rush or crouch to slide while rushing, use when escaping or repositioning.

It’s safer to instantly use rush after a kill/reset to get away when a team has a lot of flying and explosive characters.

You can chain “jumps” off of boxes/gaps, using slam to pile drive onto an enemy, or use the momentum to slam onto high ground. This is really precise, so get practicing.

Slam Tips:

Can be used off of ledges and boxes, so using verticality for a headshot then “piledriver” combo

Slam knocks away enemies, but if the enemy is knocked into a wall, or remains close by, hold/spam quick melee to follow up. Since slam resets on kill, you can chain this combo on low health enemies.

Slam can 1-shot most deployables, so pulling it off in a Daw bubble or Lark nest can provide a lot of value, even if you die after.

Use dodge to position just that little bit closer, or to the side to get a more reliable slam

Gunfighting Tips:

Avoid aiming down sights unless you’ve hit an enemy with slam/rush.

Have a higher sensitivity, centered crosshair, no motion blur, and minimal weapon bob.

Use quick melee often, it helps with damage, but more importantly reorients your aim.

Hold corners, sometimes it’s better to have enemies come to you than the other way around.

When Against characters like It-z and Duchess, you can just spam melee. Often your sheer durability can get you the win.

If you’re already fighting someone, and know they’re low on ammo/about to reload, be aggressive. You can usually kill them before they can respond, or tank a couple of shots from the fresh mag.

Tap quick melee when dodging to get a finishing or initiating blow on a moving/fleeing target. I call this “The Dap”

Positioning Tips:

Use flank routes as much as possible. Despite having a lot of armor in Rage Rush, you want to use it right before you enter combat, or when you’re just around the corner from an engagement. This gives you time to change direction if things don’t go well, or reach a target that’s especially far back. Only use rush head on into the enemy team if they’re already weak, or you’re doing a coordinated push where you know for a fact you’re gonna be followed up on/bailed out.

Use your anchor (if you have one) as a swivel point for your flanks and engagements.

It is possible to do rollouts on Star Child, but that’s better explained/shown in video format

You can play Star Child more defensively by holding high ground and shooting down at distracted targets. You can also peel your allies by using rush to get to them and fend off their attacker instead of using it to flank or punch through the enemy line.

Matchups:

This is pretty obvious, but fliers are your biggest counter. You can even the playing field by staying on top of terrain, or using quick melee while they descend. If you’re on a higher elevation than a flier, you can drop down and slam on top of their head mid air, but this is hard to pull off. You can also stick to being indoors, and focus the least problematic enemy.

If played right, Star Child is an excellent tank buster, especially into Emari. This requires full use of mobility and knowledge of hitboxes i.e: being far enough behind an enemy Emari’s barrier to damage them. In theory, the diamond skin you get on slam and variant 1 dash can win you a melee spam battle, but as of writing this, it doesn’t provide enough armor to really put something like that squarely in your favor.

Star Child is very good against Haunts, given you can keep them in your effective range. Bazz especially struggles.
