FOUNDRY – Quick Guide to the Blast Furnace

How to Build the Blast Furnace

Air Intake

  • 1 Base
  • Requires 1 control panel module
  • Requires 2 vent modules (max 7)
  • Optional, 1 tower module (max 1)

70 modules for max size and an output of 162,000 liters of air per min.

Hot Air Stove

  • Base (electric or fuel powered)
  • Requires 1 Tower Module (max 5)
  • Requires 1 Top Part Module (max 1)
  • Requires either 1 HVG input module (electric base) or 1 Conveyor input moduke (fuel base)
  • Requires 1 pipeline input module (max 4)
  • Requires 1 Pipeline output module (max 4)

Total of 70 modules for max size (if you don’t add the extra inputs/outputs. At max size inputs 108,000 liters air per min and outputs 108,000 liters hot air per min.

Blast Furnace

  • Base
  • Requires 1 hot air blast module (1 max)
  • Requires 1 pipeline input modules (8 max)
  • Requires 2 pipe output module (8 max. 1 for slag, 1 for molten ore)
  • Requires 1 tower modules (5 max)
  • Requires 1 hopper bottom module (1 max)
  • Requires 1 hopper top module (1 max)
  • Requires 1 conveyor input module (4 max, can attach 4 belts to each one)
  • Requires 1 flare stack (1 max).

Total of 333 modules for max size

Input at Max Size:

  • 324,000 liters of hot air per min
  • 480 refined xenoferrite or technum ore per min (1.5 tier 2 belts, or a tier 3 belt)
  • 360 coked ignum per min (1 tier 2 belt)
  • 240 limestone per min (1.5 tier 1 belts or a tier 2 belt)

Outputs at Max Size:

  • 360 liters of blast furnace slag per min.
  • 3600 liters of molten xenoferrite or technum (enough to supply 16 casting machines which produce 160 xenoferrite plates or technum rods per min from 225 molten ore, 4 tier 3 belts)

At max size everything, 2 Air Inputs per 3 Hot Air Stoves per 1 Blast Furnace.

Ignium Fuel Rod Value

1 Fuel Rod takes:

  • 20 Ignium Powder
  • 400 Liquid Fuel
  • 20 Ignium Powder = 40 MJ*
  • 400 Liquid Fuel = 200 MJ**

So 240 MJ of fuel stuff gets me 100 MJ of fuel rod. That doesn’t seem right.

  • *Based on 1 Ignium Ore Rubble = 10 MJ and 1 Rubble = 5 Powder, so 20/5*10 = 40.
  • **Based on Portable Fuel recipe where 30 Liquid Fuel = 15 MJ, so 400/30*15 = 200.
