Palworld – How to Fix Blank/Empty GameUserSettings.ini

Your game won’t launch at all, and when attempts are made your computer stops in a full crash until it’s turned back on again.

Blank/Empty GameUserSettings.ini Fix

How-To

In…

<C>:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Pal\Saved\Config\Windows
  • The < > symbols should be removed, and whatever is inside them replaced with your Windows Computer’s info, like C or John.
  • You can instead go to Local Disk, and get as far as you can before clicking on the search bar at the top to go into the hidden AppData folder.
  • You can instead get to the hidden folder by pressing Windows+R (or search for the “Run” program) and type %localappdata% into there and hit enter to get to the Local where Pal should be. %appdata% also works but it puts you in Roaming instead of Local, so you need to go up to AppData and choose Local instead)

…here, you will likely find a file called GameUserSettings.ini (might not show .ini for you.

If you right click and hit ‘edit’, or double click it instead, the file should open in one of your text editors.

If it is blank, add…

[/script/pal.palgamelocalsettings]
bRunedBenchMark=True

…to it, and save.

If it isn’t blank then you aren’t having the exact same issue as me, and should backup by making a copy of that file to somewhere safe before trying this, in which case you can add that to your not blank file how you see fit, or simply make a new text file with the same name with just this in it.

In any case, next time you launch the game your computer won’t explode again and you can change settings and enjoy the game!

If not, I will be very confused, because I tested this, and this is the one thing that prevented me from being able to play the game at all.

  1. Thank you for this. Located the file and mine was blank as well. Added your script but when I launch the screen is still blank. I do see 60 FPS running in the bottom right corner of the screen but nothing else

    • Idk if it’s fixed, but there is a known issue where it takes forever for the game to load in, idk if that’s what is happening to you or not. I have heard that people just wait and it eventually loads. So if it takes a long time for the game to get past the black screen and into the main menu, that might be all you have to do. I’d test to see if that is the case first so long as nothing wrong seems to be happening.
