How to Fix Micro Stutters

The game is working at 60 fps (limited) with a lot of frame time drops (micro-stutters). Follow these simple steps to fix this:

  1. Disable in-game VSync: Change the VSync setting to 0 in the config file (C:\Users*your_user*\Documents\My games\The Saboteur™\Saves\Config.ini).
  2. Enable VSync in your driver settings (in Nvidia Control Panel or AMD/Intel equivalent). This will reduce stutters by approximately 60%.
  3. Enable a 60 fps limit in your driver settings. Along with step 2, this will remove approximately 90% of stutters.
  4. Disable Steam Overlay and run the game without Big Picture mode. This will remove any remaining stuttering.

I also tried disabling the Nvidia GeForce Experience overlay, but this had no effect on the stuttering.

Following these steps, gameplay will be very smooth, especially on a 60Hz monitor or TV.

P.S. This solution may help in other old games too. For example, I found this solution when trying to fix frame time in the game Prototype (2009).

P.P.S. Do not “Disable fullscreen optimizations” in the properties of the .exe file!! I tested this setting extensively, and in all cases where I disabled it (for any game), frametime was completely ruined, leading to even more freezes.
