UnReal World – Useful Tips and Tricks

Just a collection of helpful things I know; some of these are pretty well-known, some of them less so.

Tips and Tricks

Сrеdit gоеs to Shadowdweller!

Sleeping on spruce twigs provides some warmth: Useful if you’re freezing at night and too tired to build a shelter. Furs work even better, but you’re less likely to be in that state if you have furs to spare. It’s quick and simple to cut spruce twigs and unlike building a shelter you will not ever be interrupted fatigue or sleep deprivation.

You are MUCH better at stealth while staying still. Sometimes it’s better to wait and let animals come toward you. It’s generally possible to get a closer shot if you stay still and let them approach. One of the strategies I use frequently is to hide in a spruce forest and wait a bit to see if game I’ve located nearby will come to me. Of course, they may well decide NOT to approach.

Most people know this one, but: Villagers don’t mind if you smoke meat by their fireplaces. And they won’t try to steal it either.

While it’s generally less efficient to hunt small game, if you’re starving and bad at fishing you might try hiding in a spruce forest and waiting for birds and the like to approach nearby. Do this in areas you’ve already seen or heard birds for best results. Most birds aren’t that hard to down from a couple spaces away, even if all you have are rocks. Just be a bit careful with spears and Capercaillies. They can survive a spear throw and fly away with your weapon. Also don’t waste too much time hunting like this. It’s not super reliable.

If you’re starving, you might try trading for food. Boards are reasonably effective for trading. Alternately one board or two clubs/javelins can get you a spool of yarn.

Large Islands in the archipelago (SW UrW) are great for hunting. Something with the way game spawns tends to result in plentiful and easy to find game there. Also it’s very easy to corner prey against the coastline.

It’s probably obvious, but: Trapping is a lot more effective when placed in tiles where you’ve already spotted game. It’s a lot safer to hunt bears and wolves this way.

Use meat bait for rod-fishing. It’s most efficient to use animal cuts or large fish like pike; because you will get several uses out of it. Don’t use spoiled meat as fishing bait, it’s not effective. Also: Where possible use rods in deep water, such as off rafts and punts in the middle of a waterway.

Also probably well-known: You can use domesticated animals to carry stuff for you. Having a pack-reindeer tied near your hunting grounds is pretty useful if you’re a tiny little owl tribesman who can’t carry all the meat from a kill.

You can drop objects on the overland map (and pick them up later) if you want to mark specific places. It’s sometimes more convenient and easier to use than placing markers on the F6 map.
