AFK Stage / Overworld Map Progression Team Building

I recommend that you try to save as much resources as you could in building your team for afk stages and map progression

Progression in general includes afk stages and overworld main story progress, they’re very rewarding but it’s only a one-time reward, and doesn’t have a high upper limit. According to my experiences, you’ll be able to reach end game content in 60 ~ 70 days by just playing casually, and grabbing all the rewards. Currently the CN servers aren’t available, and it’s basically impractical to assume that they will release more new maps/contents and rewards soon, which caused your heroes invested solely for map progression will likely be out of action.

This guide was made before the upcoming season content was announced, so it assumes new content won’t be dropped anytime soon.

That’s why regardless of whales, light spenders and especially f2ps aren’t recommended to invest too much into heroes solely for map progression, and use interchangeable heroes instead. Invest your limited resources in to modes that has no upper limit in terms of rewards such as dream realm and arena will be the better play!

List of recommended heroes for progression:

Team Building Ideas

Frontline Hero Picks

I recommend Lucius and Antandra, if you manage to pull Thoran you can use him instead. Lilith has already gave us the best solution for early on progression, currently daily quest chest, growth path challenges and Keith’s store all gives large amount of elite/a-tier soulstones. Even if we’re unable to put all the elite/a-tier heroes that we wanted in wishlist because there’s so much of them in game, there’s enough amount for us to get what we wanted in that huge randomness

Taking my account as an example, Lucius has never been placed into my wishlist, yet I was able to get him to epic+ and even have 2 more extra soul sigils all by using soulstones, after 48 days of playing

Other than Niru who doesn’t have much luck, all of my other elite/a-tier heroes are ascended to at least epic tier. After some testing, antandra and Lucius would be enough for casual progression at legendary+ (For the hero focus) , so you’re actually getting 2 tanks/frontlines for free to be used in general progression. Of course, most people will have Thoran in their wishlist, if your Thoran is invested/built enough, you can use him instead

Support Hero Picks

Rowan is usable at just one copy, he’s available in the 7 day login chest, or you can exchange for a copy of him in arena store. What we value here is his health potions to help your team surviving the first wave of burst from enemies and his ultimate to provide energy for surrounding allies, you don’t need him at high ascension to be viable

Smokey & Meerky is the best option here, currently the strongest support of the current game, he’s a must pull unit anyways, and I won’t set a maximum limit of when you should stop investing in him

DPS Hero Picks

Cecia is the only pick here that I recommend you to invest less resoure into for general progression, once she’s able to cast her ultimate it usually means the end of the battle, but her exclusive equipment isn’t that strong and will cause her to be lacking a bit more in late game, I suggest that you ascend her to not more than mythic+, and not to invest too much resources into her exclusive equipment

Odie, Marilee and Korin are all main DPS in dream realm, they’re must built units afterall, so you can use them in general progression too, the higher the investment the better they are. Marilee and Korin are a bit weaker in terms of DPS in general progression so you can use them as sub DPS

Pay More Attention to Faction Bonus while Building Your Team/Arranging Your Battle Formations

Even if it’s just the 1st level of the faction bonus (3 heroes of the same faction), will grant your team 10% of atk and hp, which already are a considerable amount of stat boosts, so I recommend that you try to get at least the 1st level of faction bonus while building your team/arranging your battle formations

For example, if you’re using Cecia as your main DPS, you can try:

  • Cecia, Lucius, Rowan, Marilee and Korin (4+1, triggers the 3rd level of faction bonus)
  • Cecia, Thoran, Viperian, Rowan and Smokey & Meerky (3+1+1, triggers the 1st level of faction bonus)

If you’re using Odie as your main DPS, you can try:

  • Odie, Lucius, Antandra, Rowan and Smokey & Meerky (3+2, triggers the 2nd level of faction bonus)
  • Odie, Lucius, Antandra, Rowan and Marilee (3+2, triggers the 2nd level of faction bonus)
  • Odie, Thoran, Antandra, Rowan and Smokey & Meerky (3+1+1, triggers the 1st level of faction bonus)

(Still, even though faction bonus are a great additional boost, your should still prioritize team synergy over it)

Dream Realm Boss Formation

For all dream realm bosses, I usually recommend you to use the Starshard Spell.

King Croaker

Boss Traits and Mechanics

The trait of King Croaker is that it will use it’s insta-kill ability on the nearest hero, so Thoran is very suitable against this boss, since he has 3 lives after unlocking his ex.equipment and 2 lives without it, which helps in preventing the reduction of team members as much as possible

Other than that, hero that has high damage and fast attacking frequency also counters the boss’ shield mechanics well, so Odie has greater advantage against this boss, since he’s poison’s dmg are calculated individually each second

Team recommendations and positioning:

Thoran with ex.equipment unlocked can tank the insta-kill ability from King Croaker 3 times. Target Reinier’s position swap on Marilee, giving Marilee more buffs and support. Smokey & Meerky for the healing and buffs. Utilizing Odie’s poison dmg to quickly deal with the boss’ shield.

Heroes’ investment requirements and alternative team options

  • If your Reinier hasn’t unlock his ex.equipment, you can use Kruger instead, just make sure he’s placed at front
  • If you don’t have Thoran, you can use Antandra instead, just place her at front and possibly to acquire higher faction bonus
  • If you don’t have Smokey & Meerky, the only option here will be Rowan, and since this team will lack sustain, it’s most likely impossible to last 90 seconds, I don’t recommend you to use Odie in this team, you can swap him with Korin

Lets take a look at some alternative teams/formations:

Snow Stomper

Boss Traits and Mechanics

This boss will silence your team for a long time (20 seconds), which makes Smokey & Meerky not that viable in against it

Snow Stomper’s damage mostly reduce health based on percentage, but it’s not that lethal, so it actually doesn’t require healers that much. The boss’ snowball will freeze the ally that currently does the highest dmg, so you’ll need to targeted countermeasures while arranging your formations

You can try to use the blazing spell against this boss

Team Recommendations and Positioning:

Odie and Marilee are usually the first that gets frozen by the boss, if Odie gets frozen, Marilee can quickly deal with the snowman and release Odie from it. But when Marilee gets frozen, Odie who completely ignores the snowman cause heavily drag the whole teams dmg output since Marilee will be freed slowly

In this case, after Reinier swapping Odie’s position and Shakir uses his ult, Odie can benefit from Shakir’s Lupine aura and has higher chance to be frozen by the boss. Kruger is capable to tank the boss, his physical defense reduction debuff can be stacked quickly on the boss so he doesn’t need to worry about the silence

Heroes’ investment requirements and alternative team options:

  • If your Reinier hasn’t unlock his ex.equipment, you can use Thoran instead, swap Shakir with Temesia and swap Kruger with Korin, just place them at the front will be good enough
  • If your Shakir’s ex.equipment isn’t 3 star (Lv 10) yet, you can use Korin instead, placing him at front will be good enough

Skyclops

Boss Traits and Mechanics

Skyclops traits is that it will summon two minions during the battle, one has high physical defense and the other has high magical defense, while the minions are on the field, the boss will gain damage immunity as well as 15% increase in atk, if the boss casts it’s laser beam ability at this moment it could easily took out your team.

So, the idea here is utilizing both physical and magical dmg, to make sure your team can deal with both types of minions, and you should try to scatter your team’s position to avoid them crowding together and just focusing on one of the minions, wasting time and dmg output

Due to the uncertainty on the time taken to deal with the minions, it will cause the time of the boss using it’s ability to differ in each attempt, resulting in a lot of variables, you’ll need to keep trying a lot of time to get a high score

Team Recommendations and Positioning:

Even though Odie’s dmg output might not be the highest in team, but utilizing Reinier’s swap to move Odie to the front of the boss, when the minions are summoned, Odie has higher chance to hit the same target as Marilee and Korin, clearing out the minions faster. The rest of the teams are in regular formations

Heroes’ investment requirements and alternative team options:

  • If your Reinier hasn’t unlock his ex.equipment, you can use Kruger instead, just make sure he’s placed at front
  • If you don’t have Smokey & Meerky, you can use Rowan instead, just don’t place him too near to the front so he won’t get hit by the boss’ normal attacks

Lets take a look at some alternative teams/formations:

Necrodrakon

Boss Traits and Mechanics

Necrodrakon has high burst dmg in his ult, so your team will need to include heroes that are capable to tank his burst. It’s mechanics also counters those stationary heroes (heroes that doesn’t move around usually), especially his crest will greatly reduce the energy gain and atk of heroes affected by it, stationary dps heroes like Cecia and Odie doesn’t do that well against it, using heroes like Marilee and Korin who have moving capabilities are better in this case

Team Recommendations and Positioning:

Heroes that are capable to deal dmg in this team, Marilee, Korin and Temesia all has moving capabilities. Reinier that doesn’t move around and Kruger are just utility units, it doesn’t have that much impact even if they’re affected by the crest. Other than Marilee, everyone in this team doesn’t need much additional sustain and support, Reinier’s ability to increase the dmg taken by boss and sustaining capabilities will still work even after he’s down in the battle

Heroes’ investment requirements and alternative team options:

  • If your Reinier hasn’t unlock his ex.equipment, you can use Smokey & Meerky instead, just place him at the front will be enough
  • If you don’t have Temesia or she’s not built enough, you can use Rowan instead, just place him close to allies will be enough

Lets take a look at some alternative teams/formations:

Common Teams in Arena

If there’s not special mentions, the common choice of spells in arena is usually the confining spell.

Early Game Arena Comps

Due to you still doesn’t have a very filled roster, you can only utilize the tactics of 4 heroes protecting/supporting 1 dps, and use the same team for both offense and defense. You can refer to the formation listed below, just use whoever has higher investment/more built. As for positions, just place your dps at the rearmost spot should be good enough.

Offensive Comps with Low Investment Reinier

Utilizing Reinier’s swap, you can trade over enemies’ dps hero over to your side so you can quickly deal with them, winning by quickly taking out enemies’ team, but this only works on offence

The hero that you’ll swap to the other side will be Igor, Igor will not be affected by swapping, this results in you swapping over enemies’ dps hero and Igor won’t be swapped over and prevent allies being focused on

Reinier’s Swapping Mechanics:

Arena Offensive Team Positioning Example:

You can use the confining spell if you’ve unlocked it already, Odie can’t be place in rearmost to avoid targeting from Vala, so you can pick any other spell (excluding enlightening spell, since Igor won’t need that) that works for you

Viperian Comp

Viperian is an elite/a-tier hero so can be exchanged in dream store, other graveborn elite heroes aren’t as strong as he is so they won’t be able to compete with him for the spot in wishlist. His ex.equipment does high aoe dmg and ignores positioning, so he’ll be quite strong in both offense and defense. Viperian synergize well with healers, and most people owns a healer support so you won’t need to allocate resource specifically for this comp.

Hence, building a Viperian comp with him as the main dmg dealer, is quite friendly for players that are not willing to invest too much resources in arena and fairly cost-effective as well

Team for this comp:

  • Thoran, Viperian, Igor/Cecia, Rowan and Hewynn

There’s nothing particular in positioning for this comp, you just need to make sure that Thoran’s ex.equipment’s link is on Viperian, Viperian and Hewynn are both in range for Rowan’s healing potion and ult.

Eironn + Carolina Comp

Currently the strongest comp in arena, Eironn’s ex.equipment allows him to pull enemies to the center at the beginning of battle, pairing with Carolina’s strong aoe dmg and cc, is the meta comp in arena for now. Other than Eironn and Carolina being stapled in this comp, there’s a lot of heroes that can be used in this comp as well, and has a high win rate in both offense and defense (Even if both sides are using the same comp and heroes, there’s still a chance of resulting in a draw or losing)

Common team for this comp:

  • Thoran, Carolina, Eironn, Igor and Hewynn/Damian

This comp is more suitable for arena defense, especially with the Igor + Damian combo, the burst dmg from Eironn and Carolina at the beginning could easily wipe the offensive side’s dps and the rest of their team basically has no chance of winning against the stall of Damian + Igor

If you’re a spender and capable to do so, you can swap Igor with Scarlita:

  • Thoran, Carolina, Eironn, Scarlita and Damian

This will compensate to the comp’s lack of follow-up ‘harvesting’ capabilities, stronger than the previous mentioned team, basically the strongest pvp team for now

Alternative team for offense 1:

  • Bryon, Carolina, Eironn, Igor and Damian

You can consider not using Thoran and use Bryon instead, attempting to wipe enemies’ team with burst at the beginning of match and you can get away without including a tank in team

Alternative team for offense 2:

  • Thoran, Carolina, Reinier, Eironn and Damian

Swapping Carolina over and stacking the dmg reduction from both Thoran and Reinier, even though mages are very vulnerable by default, it’ll still make them durable enough and won’t need to worry about being focused on. Due to being the frontmost unit, Carolina won’t be targeted by enemies’ confining spell and can focus on dealing dmg
