Nightingale – Troubleshooting Guide (Fixes & Workarounds)

Troubleshooting Guide

Swamp Tutorial Portal Doesn’t Open

If you’ve killed all of the Bound in the Swamp Tutorial Realm, wait 3-5 minutes for the Portal to open.

Until this issue is resolved, you can try a second character as some users have been able to get past this step on a second try.

Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource

If you get the error: “Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory, try lowering the resolution and/or closing other applications that are running. Exiting…”

In the meantime, here are some workarounds:

  • Some users have reported that ignoring the error and alt-tabbing back to the game has let them continue playing.
  • Another short term workaround until we can address this in a hotfix:
    • Hold the Windows key and press R.
    • This will bring up a run dialog window.
    • Enter: %localappdata%\NWX\saved\Config\WindowsClient in the text box and click ok.
    • This should bring you to the folder with your config files.
    • Open Engine.ini
    • At the end of the file, add:
      • [SystemSettings]
        r.pso.PrecompileThreadPoolPercentOfHardwareThreads=50
    • Save and restart Nightingale.
  • (Optional) If the video memory errors persist, follow the previous steps but replace the text above with:
    • [SystemSettings]
      r.PSOPrecaching=0

Note that this setting will disable PSO precaching and may negatively impact performance.

Error reading memory

If you get an error that says “Failed to process game data, suspected CPU or memory instability”:

  • Please try completely closing Nightingale and re-launching it
  • Try verifying your game files
  • Try restarting your computer
  • Ensure all of your drivers are up-to-date

Steam/Epic has been disconnected

If you are receiving this error, please check the following:

  1. Check for Steam or Epic Game outages.
  2. If you are playing with a wireless connection, try playing on a wired connection
  3. Ensure you have a minimum internet connection of 5 Mbps/download
  4. If you’re using a VPN, try turning it off
  5. Check your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking Nightingale or Steam’s connection. If you’re comfortable, you can try temporarily disabling them just to test if a connection can be established, but please promptly re-enable the software after checking.
  6. Close other applications that may use a network connection on your PC
  7. Try running the game with Steam in Admin mode: https://www.online-tech-tips.com/gaming/how-to-run-steam-as-admin-and-why-you-may-need-to/
  8. Try rebooting your PC
  9. Ensure you have the most up-to-date GPU/CPU/BIOS drivers installed
  10. You have the game installed on an SSD

Error getting shards for client

How do I update my game?

In both Steam and Epic Games platforms, Nightingale should automatically notify you of updates, but there may be occasions when you may have to manually ensure you’re running the latest version of the game.

Steam:

  • Right-click on the game in your library.
  • Navigate to Properties > Installed Files.
  • Click on “Verify integrity of game files”

Epic Games:

  • Reboot your computer

High Ping / Not Connecting to the Closest Region Server

If you are receiving high ping on your server, please press the F2 key to open the debug screen.

In the top right under “Realm Information” check “Region”.

If you are not connecting to your closest region (NA/EU/SE Asia):

  • Close the game and ensure no one is in the Realm for at least 10 minutes, this will reset the server.
  • Try logging back into the character.
  • Check the F2 menu and Region.
