This guide details how to get DLSS and/or Frame Generation working to solve the FPS issues some people are experiencing.

Getting it working…

There is a program on Steam called Lossless Scaling. It does various types up upscaling (e.g. DLSS, AMD FSR) and also frame generation. The frame gen and scaling works on pretty much ALL GPUs, most games, emulators, movies, etc., and the program is $7 US. I know it’s more money, but you can use this on so many other games. My 3080Ti was pegged at 100% with everything turned up at 4K. I’ve used Lossless Scaling before and decided to give it a try with this game. This absolutely fixes the issue with frame rate. I went from 20-60 FPS to a pretty much locked 120 FPS. It’s a night and day difference! Here’s what you do.

For using only frame gen (no upscaling):

  1. Start the game and select full screen windowed.
  2. Open Lossless Scaling. Make sure Scaling is set to off and Frame Generation is set to LSFG.
  3. Hit the Scale button in the upper right hand corner. It will start a countdown. Switch back to the game before the countdown ends.
  4. Enjoy frame generation!

If you want upscaling too:

  1. Set the in game resolution to that which you want to scale from, not to. Set Display Mode to Windowed. Set the frame rate cap to HALF of your displays max (I’m on a 120Hz display so I set the FPS cap to 60.)
  2. In Lossless Scaling set Scaling Mode to Custom and Scale Factor to how much scaling you need. (I’m using a 4K display and I’m scaling from 2560×1440 game resolution, so I used 1.5x Scale Factor to get 3840×2160 as 4K is 1.5 times larger than 1440P.) Set Resize before scaling to Off.
  3. Set Scaling Type to NVIDIA Image Scaling, AMD FSR, or LS1. Set sharpness to your taste. (NVIDIA and LS1 scaling look the best IMO)
  4. Hit the Scale button in the upper right hand corner and switch back to the game before the countdown ends. The window should go full screen when the countdown ends. Note: Lowering in-game resolution nets better performance but worse visuals, of course. Set it to you preference.

Note:

I found that turning the in-game sharpness (found in Graphics Settings) all the way down and adjusting the sharpness in Lossless Scaling (under Scaling Type) produced the best results. Also, some overlays could cause issues, but I’m using Riva Tuner with no issues.

Note 2:

You can also make Lossless Scaling trigger automatically when the game starts instead of having to hit the scale button every time.

  1. Under “Game Profiles” on the left side click Add
  2. Make a Title for that profile and enter the game.exe under “Filters”.
  3. Turn “Auto Scale” ON and set “Delay” to 5.
  4. Click Add and start the game!

I hope this helps some people who are sensitive to frame rate.
