A guide to help getting every Achievement in Yomawari: Midnight Shadows.
Story Achievements
There achievements related to clearing the story, unmissable once finish the game.
This game does not make it difficult for you to find way like the previous game, so I will not be providing the way. Also, Haru is the main character that you will spend time with, and most of Yui’s parts are just easy and linear anyway, so I will just skip them. All in all, I will not go too specific on how to complete each area, just some tips. This this guide is not a walkthrough.
First thing first, here are the two maps in the game:
First one is the new town, the place where Yui and Haru live. Second one is the old town, the place appeared in the previous game, with some slight modification.
Dusk
Cleared the Opening
Just clear the opening/tutorial part of the game.
Sun down
Cleared Chapter 1
Just do what the game requests at this point. In the end, you will get this Achievement after going back home. If you have problem, check the map.
Evening
Cleared Chapter 2
From Home, go to the Graveyard area (west of Home). A boss – Mr. Kotowari – will spawn here and you have to keep dodging its attack while moving. When you come across a doll, pick it up for a scene and end this chapter. This is not the last time you see Mr. Kotowari though.
Nighttime
Cleared Chapter 3
Go to the Library, and enter it (you need to pick up a ladder and put on by the window to enter). After that, explore and find your way in the library. You can save in this area using the phone. Mr. Kotowari will appear again as the boss of this chapter, and again, you have to dodge its attack. In this room, there are several objects placed for exhibition, and Mr. Kotowari’s attack can break the glass.
You need to break the glass of the middle block in the 3rd (furthest) line, shown in picture, so…yeah…break it. An object will fall out. Interact with it for a scene and end the fight.
However, keep going, you will encounter the main boss of this chapter.
In order to defeat it, turn of four lights in the four corners of this room, but remember to stay away from the Yui’s shadow reflection. Use the boxes to hide from them. Once you turn of the fourth light, watch a scene and chapter cleared.
Midnight
Cleared Chapter 4
Go to the Empty Building, and enter it (get the Rusty Pliers right on the front yard to open the door), After that, explore and find your away in this area. The light may turn off, making it hard for you to find the way. Just make way from the first floor to second floor, third floor and finally the top floor. You can save in this area using the phone. To defeat the boss here, all you need to do is evade the various objects trying to crush you. Once the candles begin attacking you with fire, lure the fire to burn the house pillar. That will defeat the boss, end the fight and clear this chapter.
Moonless Night
Cleared Chapter 5
Go to the Woods Area (east side of the map). Go here and explore the area. You will encounter Mr. Kotowari again. Here, you can defeat it i gathering all the key items to create a Robot. When you encounter a key item, two exclamation mark (!!) will appear on Yui’s head (check the specific location of the key items in the section below). Gather all the parts for a scene. Then keep going for the main boss.
You just need to run away from her. She is similar to a previous boss from the first game, so my tip is do not run all the time. Walk normally when she follows you. Just start running to dodge her attack when she moves fast/teleports next to you.
Once you reach the bridge, you have won.
Witching Hour
Cleared Chapter 6
You will be able to control Yui for quite a while in this Chapter. The way is linear anyway so…yeah.
Back to Haru, now you will be brought to the Factory in the previous game by Mr. Yomawari again. Just advance and explore this area while avoid dying. You objective is to get out of the factory using the main gate. Once you have done so, you will get counter the boss. It’s a big ball of some random creepy thing. You just need to keep dodging its attack: look for the stretching arm and avoid the black smoke. The pattern should become clear for you after a while. The turning direction is right → left → left, and once you reach the Shrine, you are good.
Late Night
Cleared Chapter 7
Make your way to the Sewers Area. It is more or less like a maze (an easy maze) here, so just be patent when you make your way through it. Do not other the questions, they are just for decoration. When you reach a room with a Plastic Bag, use it to avoid being killed. There is not much to talk about this area to be honest. Then advance to the next area (but while walking up the stairs linking two area, you can use the left door to go outside and save at a Jizo Statue). This area is more or less the same, just cross it to reach the boss. You need to dodge the arm, so stay around the boss’s jaws. Only the arms can hurt you. When the boss’s eyes become red, and it swing the arm at the right side of the screen, proceed to run ti the right. Repeat 3 times to beat it. Watch a scene and pick whatever you want to conclude this chapter.
Dark Night
Cleared Chapter 8
In the Dam area, you will encounter the little bur ball monster. I think the best way to avoid them is to make Haru turn in circle constantly. You will encounter Mr. Kotawari here, keep going and dodge his attack. You will want to reach the Shrine, so check the map to avoid going the wrong way. Once you have reached the Shrine, your task is to lute Mr. Yomawari’s attack to clear off the trash. One all piece of trash is cleared, watch a scene and this chapter is done.
Dead of Night
Cleared Chapter 9
In order to beat the boss here, you need to talk to it three times. I think it’s fairly easy to do so, just dodge it’s attack, and when it return to Yui’s form, talk to it. Then, proceed the game. Do whatever the game tells you to, until you reach the tree, Instead of hanging yourself, pick up the Paper Scrap 1 near by. Then backtrack, ignoring the sound. After answering a few question (I don’t remember but I think you should choose “No”) and a scene, go through the small hole to enter the final chapter.
Torn Asunder
Overcame malice
Defeat the final boss.
Make your way to the boss. The spiders here are attracted to your light, so turn it of is a good idea. The way a light up pretty clear anyway. Question does not matter.
You will need to cut the threads to defeat it while avoiding its attacking. The falling crows area quite hard do dodge, as you have to spot their subtle shadow. Whatever shows on screen, do the exact opposite.
- It tells you not to cut the thread: cut it.
- It tells you to cut the thread: don’t, until the message disappear.
- It tells you to move: don’t move an inch.
Cut four threads to defeat it.
Dawnt
Cleared Chapter 10
After defeating the boss, watch a scene and you’ve finish the story of the game.

Bulletin Board
Read 5 different bulletin boards.
Along with your journey, you will encounter several bulletin boards in various locations, like near Home, at the Shrine, near the house of the previous protagonist, near School in the old Town…
Just read/interact with 5 of them for this Achievement.
Electric Light
Defeat five or more mist apparitions (ectoplasms)
The mist apparitions are the white cloudy ghosts an you can see here, in the right.
Yes, there are lots of them so you don’t need to worry about not encountering any. When spot you they will chase after you for a while. After a certain distance, they will disappear. So to kill them means you have do walk/run far enough, to a certain distance, then move slowly and watch them approach you and disappear on-screen. I am not sure if you need to point the flashlight directly at them while they disappear to count as one kill, but I am fairly certain that I did not.
All in all, just make them chase after you, and watch them die, five times.
Sidetracked
Kicked the can a total of 10 times.
There are lots of cans around the world, in both map. There is one near Home. There is also one around the Store. Just kick them back and forth 10 times.
The Crow
Encountered the ghost crow.
At some locations, there is a chance that a crow there will transform into a Ghost Crow when you approach them, instead of flying away.
I don’t know all locations, but I know at least the crows by the river, near the Bridge and the Train Tracks, can do so.
Treasure Hunt
Open Garbage Bags a total of 20 times.
There are several Garbage Bags around the world, as you can see one in this picture (outside the Empty Building).
Anyway, if you spot one, you can just open it, suicide and repeat 20 times for this.
Cat
Pet a total of 10 cats.
When you open the Garbage Bags, you may get an Animal Feed (check the usable Items below). If a cat sees you normally, it will run away. By throw an Animal Feed to a cat, you can lure it to come to you, and pet/interact with the cat.
There are many cats around the map. Interact with 10 of them for this Achievement. I am not sure, but I think if you die, you can interact with the cats at the same location and still count towards this Achievement. Remember to pick up the Animal Feed after throwing, because… you can.
Dog
Walked a dog for a total of 10 minutes.
Finish the story part of the game to gain access to the dog charm. Equip it and go out for 10 minutes.
Paper Planes
Flew the paper airplanes a total for 30 times.
Enough self-explanatory. If you spot a place that gives you paper airplane, you can suicide and respawn to get and throw airplanes continuously for this Achievement. Also, you may get a paper airplane after acquiring the Rice Stalk, by throwing a coin into the saisen at the Shrine on the Field. More information on how to get the Rice Stalk below.

- Can be used to stall or distract certain enemies.
Coin
- Various places on the Map.
- Use to save at Jizo Statue, and to trigger special events and items.
Paper Place
- Not as abundant as Pebble or Coin, but can still be picked up in many areas.

Firefly
- Not as abundant as Pebble or Coin, but can still be picked up in many areas. After getting the collectible Rice Stalks, you can throw one Coin into the saisen at the Shrine on the Field, and one Paper Place or Firefly will appear nearby.
- Can be used to distract certain enemies.
Garbage Bag

Salt
- Go to the Centipede Shrine (Downtown area, old town) and throw a Coin in to the saisen. 5 Salts will spawn nearby.

- Can be used to lure cats.
Doll
- To the left to the Downtown area, old town, you can see an alley with a red toilet at the entrance, and Hanako will be standing in from of that toilet. If you have played the first game, chances are catching Hanako is familiar to you. Go and interact with her, and she will disappear into the alley. The alley has only one entrance anyway, so go into it, find her 3 more times. After interacting with her 4 times, you will get a doll.
Bring the doll to the northern Shrine which has the human symbol. Go to the saisen box, interact with it and do the following:
- Choose “I can’t take it anymore”
- Throw a coin into the saisen box
- Choose “Yes” to return the scissors.
An event will happen, which I am not sure if it’s important or not.
Once used, the Doll can be picked up inside Haru’s room.
Can be used to distract many enemies.

After finishing the game, go back to the entrance of the Sewers area (where you find the Sewer key), and an earthquake will happen. Go to the room where you got prompted with the first question (should be to the east of that entrance), and you will piece a piece of wood.
Now it’s incredibly obvious that you need this piece of wood to access some areas, but you need to go to the correct place.
Bring that piece of wood out of the room and keep going along the only path. When you come to the bridge, do not cross it, just keep walking along the path. Cross the second bridge you encounter and you will come to the place where you can put that piece of wood down. Do it an enter a new area. The light will go off, and you have to find a way with just that flash light, so good luck… Anyway, in the end, you will find the Catfish Whiskers.
Brown Puppy /

Small Flower /
Meet the previous protagonist 5th times. (Locations shown on the map)

- Then she will move to another location, which is the Train Xing on the map. Go there for the second encounter.
- Then she will move into the factory. However, the door there is closed, so you have two ways of getting in: teleport to the Jizo statue there, or talk around to be captured by Mr. Yomawari (However, this will not happen if you carry the dog/Brown Puppy Charm). She stands at the end of the metal bridge.
- The fourth encounter is at the dog’s grave from the previous game, Woods area of the old town.
- Finally, go to the entrance of the northeastern cave, where you fought the boss of the first game. She will be there.
Centipede Charm
Go to the Centipede Shrine, then throw a Coin into the saisen. 5 Salts will appear near by, along with 7 ghosts in the Shopping District. You need to kill all of them. Locations of the Ghosts are shown on the map.

Straw Hat
Most western area of the map.
In this place, you will see a metal door with no handle. So, you need to get the key item Handle (detail in the Key Items Section) first. After that, you can enter this place.
There are several shadows here, but most of them do not move. However, the Straw Hat lies at the back, and when you go there, a shadow will wake up and attack you. To prevent yourself from dying, make sure the Trash Bag is ready to use. Then move to the back without touching the sleeping shadows. When you come close enough, there will be a split second when you see a shadow starts moving. Immediately press the Use item button to use the Trash Bag and cover yourself. You should dodge that monster if done correctly. Then, just get that item.
Wriggling Furball
Go to the most southern area of the Field. An even will occur, in which you will be told not to move out of the bush until it is said to be safe. Simply don’t move out until you are told that’s okay to do so. Then you can get this item on the ground, near that bush.
Weird Urn
Teleport to the Jizo Statue on the Mountain. You will see four bells.
Walk slowly towards the bells, and when those bell start ringing, stop moving immediately.

Done correctly and you will survive. Continue walking tho get the item.
Large Molar
Teleport to the north of the Apartments. After that, start walking on the road between the two buildings in the Apartments. A huge ghost head will spawn at some point and follow you.
Run away from it.
After it disappears, go back to the place where it appeared and get this item.
Lion-dog Set
You will need the two key items Blue Lion-dog and Round Red Rock (more details in the Key Items section) for this.
The Blue Lion-dog can be put into a Lion statue found at the end of a road, to the east of library. The Round Red Rock can be put into a Dog statue near a shrine to the east of Store. Basically, both statues are in the same area with the Store and the Library.
After you one of those two key items into the statue, a blue/red head ghost will start to appear at the crossroad of the area. You need to kill it twice to get the Lion-dog Set.
When you spot that monster, it will follow you. Simply lead that monster to any of the two statues (after you have placed the key items in) and interact with the statue. The monster should be killed. After being killed the first time, that monster will not spawn at the crossroad anymore, but rather near the statue where you killed it. Lead that monster to the other statue, interact and kill it again. After killing it twice, you can get the item.
Scribble Mask /
Visit 9 graffiti locations in the world.
Collection
Here are the maps of item locations:
Mysterious Pebble
You need to collect all Part 1 to Part 5 for this. More information on Page 4.
After that, go to the empty land, near the bridge, to the left of Home to get this (same place with Part 1)
Mummified Fish
You need to bring along a Salt for this.
Go to the Pond and throw 10 objects into it.
Ideally, you should throw some Pebbles, because it’s least valuable and very common. There is a chance that an object you throw into the Pond will appear behind you again. So just bring 6-7 Pebbles should be enough.
After that, a Skull spirit will appear. Kill it with a Salt. Then you can get this item from the Skull’s location.
There is a chance and a Jellyfish spirit will spawn in this area, which can cause some hindrance to this task.
Spirit Shell
Go to the vending machine at the end of the road, near the river bank, to the opposite side of the Store. Then throw 5 Coins into it.
After that, you will be taken into a parallel realm.
The only enemy capable of hurting you here is the Mist apparitions, so, yeah don’t get kill by it. That thing is quite easy to defeat. However, in case you die, you will be brought back to the real world. You can come back here with just a coin.
Move the Shells (there is only one possible way anyway) to make it to the river bank, then push it down to go back to the real world.
After that, do some backtracking and this item should be on your way.
Gold Coin
Go to the T-Shape area between the Home and Bridge (right of Home, near the river rntersection).
There you can find a Crying stone.
Your task is to told it and bring it to the empty land, left of the Apartments.
Some rock will guide you but no not play too much attention to the guiding rocks. They will just lead you directly to places with spirits waiting.
Just go from point A (the place where you pick that crying rock) to point B (the empty land to the left of the Apartments) and you are good.
After that, put the rock on a bigger stone, watch a scene and get that item.
Chicken Ornament /
After clearing the game, exam the chicken in front of the Empty Building.
Old Wood
Anytime after clearing Chapter 4, make your way back to the house.
The light will go off, so you have to make you way through here just just some light from the flash light.
Get to the house pillar, and turn of the flashlight. Exam it for this item
Wilted Flower
Enter the Factory in the neighboring town by using the Jizo Statue in it.
Then go the southern path, watch a scene, follow Mr. Yomawari inside the newly unblocked area for that item.
If you for some reason did not active that Jizo Statue, then you will have to do it the hard way, as in being captured by Mr. Yomawari (do not bring the dog with you). The Jizo Statue is at the most eastern part of the area.
Broken Cellphone
You should bring a Doll with you for getting this item.
In the alley to the west of Home, you can find a ringing phone. Interact with it. Wait for it to ring 7 times. then answer.
Done correctly and you should hear Miss Mary. Go right and Mary will chase you right behind.
Throw a Doll and her and wait for her to disappear.
Get that item.
Rice Stalks
Go to the Shrine at the rice field and throw 15 Coins into it (The god of the Shrine will appear at the Saisen after you have thrown 10 Coins. You can suicide and keeping picking coins by using the nearby Jizo Statue. Well, you have to anyway).
When you throw the 15th one, the god will move to the upper right corner, then disappear if you interact. Get the item from that location.
From then on, get a Firefly or Paper plane from this location by throwing a coin into the Saisen.
White Handkerchief
You can get it as early as after Chapter 5 boss fight. Get the red umbrella on one side of the road and give it to the spirit.
You also can do this later in game, though you have to bring the umbrella and advance further back into this area, somewhere near the train, to find her.
