AI War 2 – Tips for AI Civil War Games

Just finished beating two Full Ensemble difficulty 7 AI, set to Civil War with each other. Most intense game I’ve played yet, actually a ton of fun! I wanted to pass these ideas along to other players who want to take on an AI Civil War scenario.

Remember that you can “help” the AI against each other. I found that both AI factions were quite good about taking advantage of holes that I had left. If one faction is getting a bit too powerful, crack a hole in their defenses along a border with the other faction and watch them expend time taking the other’s territory. The borders between AI factions varied quite a bit during my game.

However! Bear in mind that the AI will happily route through your systems to get at their rivals!

Lastly, after defeating one of the AI factions, you can “still” leverage them against the remaining enemy. Leftover hackable installations (fleet research and the like) will still spawn a response from the rogue, overlord-less defeated faction. Those leftover forces will happily fight the remaining AI faction, and clean up their command stations “without costing you AIP”.

I deliberately spawned some rogue AI forces in this way and they handily cleaned up some weaker systems, taking them away from the pressing threat. The greatest thing is to hack such installations that are already in systems held by the remaining AI faction – they do not change hands and will still spawn forces for the defeated AI faction.
