I actually liked this puzzle. You need to reason it out. Here are some hints, in order. Warning! The guide contain spoilers.
Medical Record Codes Tips
- Showing the records to one of the doctors reveals that each record contains information on the prescribing doctor, the patient, and the drug.
- The records given are the most recent prescriptions. The one you want isn’t in that list. You need to reason out what it should be by deciphering the format. Try looking at the codes and see if you can identify which parts of the code relate to the doctor, the patient, and the drug.
- If you show the records to some other people on the station who might have received drugs recently, they will tell you what they’ve been prescribed. Those people probably are on the last page of your list. Can you relate any information about the person to one of the codes on your list?
- How many doctors with prescriptive power are there? One of them mentions it. Do you see any parts of your example records with that many different options?
- Heavier spoilers start here. Okay, you probably figured out the first digit is the doctor. Two doctors, and it is either 1 or 2. Look at the next three digits. What do they look similar to?
- Yeah, it is the the residence of the person getting the prescription. What is the residence of the person you are looking for?
- That means the remaining digits are the drug. If you showed the records to the programmer who got hit on the head, he will tell you he was prescribed painkillers, you could look for his residence on your list to see the painkiller code.
- That, or just brute force it out at this point. There are two doctor options, you know the residence of your target, and I think there were three different drug options on the record list. A max of six total tries to get the right one isn’t too tough.
