Entities / Enemies and How to Escape Them

CW-001: Snailman

  • Danger Level: 2

Snailman is a slow and easy to avoid entity. Despite looking friendly, the Snailman will try to catch and eat explorers. They possess the same intelligence as normal snails and their movement is sloppy. Snailmen may also appear in groups inside structures or outside. They are most dangerous in tight corridors and lethal in groups.

If one ever gets themselves caught by the Snailman, it is still possible to escape as Snailman’s arms are quite weak.

CW-002: Chokelegs

  • Danger Level: 4*>

Chokelegs is a dangerous entity which stalks its prey and then attacks from behind. It is recommended to check your surroundings upon exiting the dive bell, and if you spot this entity in the distance, make sure not to stay in the dark for too long.

Chokelegs mostly appears outside but there is a chance it will appear inside structures as well. This entity silently tries to catch explorers by surprise. Chokelegs’ weakness is light – once it walks into bright light, its body disappears. Flashlights or static lights are enough to make CW-002 disappear and reappear in the dark. Light must cover the whole body of the entity, otherwise it won’t disappear. Entity also tries to catch its prey repeatedly until the prey leaves the area.

Once Chokelegs catches an explorer, another explorer is needed to shine their flashlight at it, otherwise there is no escape from this entity. Trying to take out your own flashlight leads to instantly dropping it.

The most reliable way to get rid of Chokelegs is flare.

CW-003: Whisk

  • Danger Level: 3

CW-003 is a tall robot with a head made from a dual blender. Whisks appear mostly inside structures (especially factories) and roam around. They do not seek explorers, but they attack them upon spotting.

Whisk’s attack consists of two stages. The first stage is identification and charging. In this stage, Whisk faces the explorer, starts up its blenders and spins them in high RPM and takes its time before commencing its second stage – probably due to its slow calculating system. The second stage is the attack itself, where Whisk charges at the explorer at a high speed. The attack is easy to avoid as Whisk’s charge follows a straight line. CW-003 is most dangerous in tight corridors where avoiding sideways is not possible.

This entity has a low intelligence and its attacks often end up by hitting a wall and falling. Once the first attack is finished, the delay before the next attack is short.

Being hit by Whisk’s attack leads to severe injury, but not death unless being hit for the second time. It is possible to run away during the first stage of Whisk’s attack. The entity does not chase explorers.

CW-004: Big Slap

  • Danger Level: 5!!

CW-004, also called the “Big Slap” is currently the most dangerous entity. Although it doesn’t hunt explorers, being spotted by this entity leads most often to certain death. By the time of writing, there is currently no reliable way of escaping it.

CW-004 is twice as tall as an average human and its speed cannot be outrun. The entity rarely appears in industrial buildings, but tends to appear in civilian structures, most commonly in the part which explorers call “The maze”.

CW-004 has to be avoided at all costs. Presence of the “Big Slap” can be heard as it breathes loudly. Loud screaming indicates that someone is being chased.

Trying to stun CW-004 using a shockstick was found to be ineffective as the entity still keeps its strength to quickly kill explorers.

CW-005: Star Beast

  • Danger Level: 1+

CW-005 is an entity which resides on ceilings. Star beasts gain food by catching their prey from above by a mechanical claw hanging from the middle of their mouths. It is unknown how this entity travels, if it even does.

Star beast’s mechanical claw on a string is either made of material which allows light to go through, or it uses its own way of making its trap barely visible – most probably similar to chameleons or octopuses.

Star beasts are harder to spot and paying attention is needed, but they are generally uncommon. It can not be determined if Star beasts are territorial or not as the latest report states three individuals were sighted in the same room. Flashlights are capable of revealing Star beasts’ mechanical claw and string. Either outline or shadow is visible when being shined upon. Star beast’s body is not capable of blending in with its surroundings.

Star beasts may also use an item to bait explorers. They are aware of what humans may be interested in. One may find bones or animal heads lying right below this entity. The highest probability of being caught by CW-005 is while being chased by another entity.

If caught by the Star beast, another explorer is required. Star beast will let go upon being hit by a thrown item.

CW-006: Smallest Australian Spider

  • Danger Level: 4!

CW-006 is one of the more common entities which can be found inside abandoned structures. Its unsettling appearance already signalizes that CW-006 is a natural hunter. With sharp, vertically placed teeth, it can cause deep injuries.

It is recommended to keep distance from this entity as running away is quite difficult.

CW-006 has an ability to spit cobweb strings from its mouth while chasing its prey. It doesn’t build any traps like normal spiders, but it rather seeks its food.

One must avoid getting caught in the cobweb strings at all costs while being chased. CW-006 is capable of killing an explorer in a few bites.

Shockstick is extremely effective against this entity.

CW-007: Captcha Cage

  • Danger Level: 3*/4*

Sentient object.

CW-007 is an anomalous object designed to trap explorers. Due to its nature, it is considered an entity. It is currently unknown where the Captcha cage originated from, but its ability to move rapidly makes it a dangerous entity to deal with.

Captcha cages remain still until being spotted by an explorer. Once spotted, they begin to chase explorers at extreme speeds whenever out of sight. When present in structures, Captcha cage makes exploring difficult, especially when the explorer is alone. CW-007 can be either avoided or neutralized. If alone, it is recommended to return to the surface as soon as possible once the entity’s presence is discovered. This can be done by keeping eye contact while backing off. This method is not reliable as it does not allow safe check of surroundings.

Neutralizing the Captcha cage is a more riskant way, but provides safer exploring. CW-007 becomes neutralized once an explorer is caught in it. Solving its puzzle is the best way as it saves the person trapped inside. Once its puzzle is solved, the mask on the top turns happy and the entity will no longer chase explorers.

If the puzzle is failed, the person inside is killed. After that, the entity disappears.

Information about neutralizing CW-007 are not fully confirmed.

CW-008: Chuckster

  • Danger Level: 4

CW-008 appears to be a heavily mutated caterpillar (or larvae) of an unknown kind. Chucksters are dangerous as they possess strong arms combined with aggressive behaviour. Only experienced explorers should approach CW–008 in order to gather footage. They are difficult to be outrun. Using a shockstick is recommended to temporarily stun Chucksters in order to gain time to run away or save a person who has been caught.

Chucksters are considered to be territorial, but their behaviour may vary depending on each individual. They consider explorers as a threat, resulting in an immediate attack upon spotting one.

Once the Chuckster manages to catch a person, it lifts them up and throws them, either at another explorer or randomly. Being thrown by the Chuckster may cause bone fractures and might also lead to losing consciousness. Being thrown twice leads to death.

Avoiding CW-008 is the best option as it does not seek explorers. Running away after being spotted is possible as Chucksters eventually give up and return to their territory.

CW-009: Goblin

  • Danger Level: 1++

Goblins are passive entities which roam around the Old World. They do not have any known enemies, but they like to scare explorers.

Goblins mostly appear in pairs or groups, roaming together.

Once spotted, they tend to run away, occasionally turning around to check if they are still being chased. Once CW-009 sees an opportunity, it walks to an explorer from behind and loudly screams to scare the person. Once their goal is complete, they run away. Goblins are not considered lethal as they do not bring any negative effects to explorers.

CW-010: Slime Pig

  • Danger Level: 3++

CW-010 is a living slime-like matter which behaves as an ordinary organism. Slime pigs do not have any organs or brain, yet they are capable of movement and survival. Their intelligence is similar to CW-001 – Snailmen.

CW-010 tend to roam around a specific area, but whether they are territorial or not needs further investigation.

Despite being harmless to explorers, Slime pigs are considered unsafe due to their ability to swallow and store things inside of them, humans included. CW-010 will chase explorers upon spotting and will try swallowing them. Once an explorer is swallowed, Slime pig will run at a high speed in random directions and will continue running until the explorer is dropped or escapes. Due to this behaviour, CW-010 is considered unsafe as explorers often end up lost inside structures. In the worst case scenarios, explorers might be dropped near a different entity or killed if the entity runs through lasers.

CW-011: Knivo

  • Danger Level: 3>

CW-011 is an entity which hides itself under a bed sheet. It carries a knife and attacks explorers on sight. Escaping Knivo’s attack is not easy, but neither difficult.

Knivos appear randomly around structures and they chase explorers in order to stab them. Running away or using a shockstick are good methods of escaping Knivo. CW-011 is a slow runner and tends to give up after chasing an explorer for a certain period of time.

Although this entity is smaller than an average human and makes innocent sounds, it should not be underestimated.

It is said that CW-011 is a person (or a child) hiding under a sheet, which is not true as this entity survives in the Old World without any oxygen. It is possible this entity used to be a human who went through a series of mutations and psychological changes, turning them into an aggressive being.

CW-011 might have existed even before the Old World incident.

CW-012: Gundog

  • Danger Level: 4

CW-012 are man-made autonomic robots which can be found both inside and outside. Just like guarding dogs, these robots roam and guard specific areas or structures.

Gundog’s turret behaves independently on the body, allowing the robot to travel and scan surroundings simultaneously. It seems that CW-012’s turret was added separately, and did not belong to the original concept before. Engineers who stood behind the creation of the Gundog are most probably deceased.

Gundogs are dangerous since the turret mounted on their back considers explorers as a threat and shoots upon spotting one. Despite being inaccurate, the turret has a high rate of fire and a big store of ammunition, meaning that it has to be avoided every time it is encountered. CW-012 tends to chase explorers and always goes to the last position where an explorer was seen.

CW-012’s original intention is concerning. It may have been intended as a security robot but it also may have been built for offensive purposes. Since they were capable of withstanding the Old World incident, Gundogs were most probably designed for war rather than security.

CW-013: Ear Monster

  • Danger Level: 3*

CW-013 is an uncommon entity which may be found across the Old World. Its body is covered by ears and its head is one big ear as well. Ear monster’s movement is clumsy and is bad at chasing explorers, but it is still quite dangerous as it is capable of long jumps and its attack causes painful injuries.

The entity makes its specific sound which can be heard once it gets closer.

CW-013 is quite aggressive and it is recommended to keep distance. If this entity starts chasing you, loud screaming is a good method of scaring it away. Trying to sneak is ineffective as CW-013 can hear heartbeat, always choose to run or scream in order to avoid this entity.

CW-014: Mouthball

  • Danger Level: 3!

CW-014 is an entity which appears more commonly than CW-013. Mouthballs and Ear monsters may be relatives, as they show similar behaviour and their bodies have similar signs (long legs, body covered by ears/mouths, no eyes). It is safe to assume Mouthballs and Ear monsters have evolved from the same (or at least similar) organism.

CW-014 is slightly more dangerous than CW-013 as it cannot be scared away and also is capable of sucking explorers into a whirlpool it creates by spinning in very high RPM.

Mouthball’s ability to spin and create such whirlpool in order to pull its prey closer is very unique, but also lethal. CW-014 has probably evolved this ability as a compensation for its poor movement capability. If an explorer is sucked into Mouthball’s whirlpool, they will be hit by its leg at a high speed, leading to lethal bone fractures, internal bleeding and organ injuries. It is recommended to keep a safe distance from this entity at all times. Entity chases explorers upon spotting and running away is the safest option. The best opportunity to run away appears when CW-014 starts creating its whirlpool.

CW-015: Bomb Tosser

  • Danger Level: 2

CW-015 is a slow but aggressive entity which tries to eliminate explorers by throwing explosive bombs at them. The way this entity creates explosives has not been fully discovered, but it seems that this entity’s body is capable of creating explosive mixtures on its own.

Bomb tossers move by jumping like frogs and upon seeing an explorer, they start chasing them while also throwing bombs with a time fuse long enough to take a safe distance. If an explorer gets too close to CW-015, the entity will ignite itself and jump towards the explorer before exploding. Bomb tossers are most dangerous in dead ends and small rooms.

Items

IW-001: Bone

  • Item Category: A

Bones can be commonly found both outside and inside structures. They are remains of people who died during an incident which destroyed the Old World. Their age is unknown.

For unknown reasons, full skeletons were never sighted, only single parts can be seen across the wasteland.

IW-002: Container

  • Item Category: C

IW-02 is considered to be one of the rarest items which can be found in the Old World because only one sighting of this item has been reported so far. Properties of this item are unknown, but its glowing purple colour indicates presence of a radioactive substance.

The item can be picked up, but it is not recommended as it may cause health problems associated with radiation. Despite having no use, this item may be connected to the Old World destruction. Further investigation is required.

IW-003: Brain on a Stick

  • Item Category: B

IW-003 has been found inside an abandoned ship during an ordinary expedition. Item seems to possess an ability which stops natural decomposition.

It is theorised that IW-003 was made by an explorer who wanted to run a test on CW-001. Body of the person to which the brain belonged has not been found. Creator of IW-003 is presumed dead.

IW-004: Animal Heads

  • Item Category: H

IW-004 are rare statues of animal heads found in the old world. So far, rabbit heads and bird heads are known to exist. Their origin is unknown, but it is assumed that this item is not man-made.

Do not pick up animal heads at any costs. Picking up IW-004 results in immediate local gravity inversion, sending the affected explorer to the ceiling with extreme force. By the time of writing, there is currently no known way of inverting this effect back to normal. Animal heads have never been found outside of structures yet.

Every reported sighting stated that this item was found lying beneath CW-005. It is possible to theorise that Star beasts use the IW-004 to keep themselves on the ceiling. Rabbit heads also were mostly found in pairs, the bird head was found lying individually. By the time of writing, the principle of animal heads has not been discovered.

IW-005: Old Painting

  • Item Category: H

Old painting is an item which rarely appears, but causes a lot of trouble once seen by the human eye. Painting shows a photo of Big Slap’s head.

Once an explorer looks at the painting, even by accident or without knowing, CW-004 appears in the area. It could not be described how CW-004 appears after an explorer looks at its painting, putting IW-005 into category H.
