Convoy – How to Get Particularly Difficult Achievements and Unlockables

This guide aims to help completionists in getting some of the more difficult achievements of the game, several of which come with unlocks.

Troublesome Achievements and Unlockables Guide

Before We Begin

Greetings! In this guide I aim to help the completionists of you to gather some of the rarer achievements of the game ‘Convoy’. But before we begin, there are a few things you need to know.

On Recommended Vehicles and Equipment

For all of these acheivements, I reccomend a similar setup, that requires one or two unlocks. The first of which is very easy to obtain!

The Cargo-14 A2 Is obtained from travelling over 6000km in a single run, a relatively straightforward task, and is, in my humble opinion, the best MCV of all available designs to start a run with, followed closely by the Prototype SRS command vehicle and the Dreadnought mkII. The strengths of the Cargo-14 A2 are as follows:

  • Starting armament: 1 leech drone, 3 healer drones.

It may sound underwhelming, it may look underwhelming, but the humble leech drone is the best tool in your arsenal for assuring MCV survivability. The Dreadnought may have more armour, and the Prototype SRS more dodge, but why worry about taking hits when you can simply invalidate them? The leech drone allows you to take a lot of damage, and does a decent amount while doing this. Not to mention the fact it goes through shields, which makes it perfect for taking out annoying adversaries your escorts are having trouble with.

The healer drones are not so useful, however they can be easily sold for a lot of parts (40 each no less). I recommend selling two and keeping the third just in case one of your escort vehicles gets into trouble.

Cargo Capacity

Why does this matter? Well, the more cargo capacity you have, the less you have to return to the Mercury, and with the A2, you don’t have to return at all until you have finished all your objectives. This is perfect for achievement hunting, especially as one of the rarest achievements is delivering all packages together!

Escort Vehicles

I recommend using the escorts you unlock from beating the game with only heavy vehicles, as they are two very powerful heavy escorts, however viable replacements are the escorts you receive for winning with only ramming damage, only hi-tech weapons, or the two drones you get from defeating Andy. However, a good rule of thumb is just to take whatever preset gives you more heavy vehicles!

On the Randomised Nature of Events

Many events in ‘Convoy’ have varied and branching paths that change not only due to the player’s actions, as I am sure you are aware if you have played this game for any length of time, therefore it can become extremely difficult to get a specific outcome from even one of the main missions you are given at the start of the game, to mitigate this fact we employ a little trick.

On Saving and Reloading

What you ask? But ‘Convoy’ has no save system! Well my friend, in a way you are right, but there is a way to reload events to try and increase your chances of getting the rarer outcomes, of course, I tell you this assuming you have not already found out yourself, and on the understanding that it be only used honourably and for the purposes of collecting acheivements that you would otherwise expend far too much of your time searching for!

The method is quite simple, when you are about to enter an event, or when you have just entered it, save and exit the game via the escape menu. Then, when you reload, if you do not get the outcome you wish from the event do not exit the event screen and instead use alt+f4 to end the process. Upon reloading the game, you should find yourself back at the start of the event.

On the Rarity of Outcomes

Some of the achievements, such as ‘Out of gas’, require a very rare (I estimate for the aforesaid about a 1 in 50) event chain that is very difficult to manipulate, be assured that the information in this guide is accurate, if you repeat steps noted here and receive no results you must unfortunately simply continue trying.

Plundering Pirates!

Plundering pirates requires you to defeat the ‘Privateer miniboss’, quite simple you may say, well, for 92% of the visitors to Omek Prime it is certainly not so simple, and with good reason.

While the Raider and T.O.R.V.A.K bosses are quite easy to find, the Privateer one requires you to go a little out of your way, and take a route that some would describe as ungentlemanly. When you have the ‘multi-cellulose infused ethanol’ main quest, you must upon finding the scientist shoot him in the head and steal a map he holds that has upon it the location of the ‘driving dutchman’, the adversary mentioned in the acheivement. Upon doing this you must merely find and destroy him.

There is however, as with the other bosses, an alternative means to achieve this end. There is a wandering version of the privateer miniboss accessed through a radio event that talks about ‘Krieg’, a band of privateers named after the German word for War that are probably a reference to something or other knowing this game. This event is however, rather rare.

Big Haul!

This is in my opinion one of the easiest achievements to get passively, simply take the Cargo-14 A2 and do not return to the mercury until you have completed all the main missions, I do not consider this a hard achievement, but I include it because it is an easy one to do in the background while you are completing the really problematic ones.

Speedrun!

This acheivement is quite challenging, but is fairly straightforward. You must simply avoid all radio signals, and any missions you pick up during the run, apart from the main ones. You will need to have unlocked some reliable starting vehicles, I particularly reccomend those obtained from the Hi-Tech acheivement or from beating Andy.

REPO Man!

This is one of the more troublesome achievements, during the Hyperdrive Stabilisers questline after you have defeated the privateers Andy takes you to attack, go with him to a T.O.R.V.A.K checkpoint to rescue a woman named Elizabeth, rather than fighting you must surrender, making the least fuss possible and never mentioning Elizabeth’s name, you will receive the opportunity after being taken into their camp to steal two or their vehicles with Andy. Note: the T.O.R.V.A.K will Destroy all your existing escort vehicles, so reloading after you get the achievement may be preferable.

Sole Survivor!

This Acheivement requires you to have been a little lucky in your acquisitions early on, as you need to aquire at least two leech drones and some sort of weapon (even a mine thrower works) for your MCV, in addition to a support system (Either another weapon, and EMP weapon or a shield).

I reccomend either the Cargo-14 A2 or the Prototype SRS as your starting vehicle, the A2 for it’s extremely valuable Leech drone, and the SRS for it’s evade bonus and EMP blasters. If neither of these are available the Dreadnought is also a decent choice, but will require some extra work to make it function as it needs to.

Take note that the largest difficulty in this achievement is found in the form of EMP, as factions such as the Privateers often carry EMP blasters. These should be the first target of your MCV to ensure it’s survival, and are the main reason why I do not reccomend the super heavy laser for use during this challenge, as it is easily disrupted. Try and EMP the vehicles carrying a blaster before they do it to you!

Lucky Fether!

I must confess that I have not myself unlocked this achievement yet, and with good reason. The Lucky Peacock event is scarce, and you require vast quantities of parts to even have a chance of achieving this. If you are lucky enough to find the event, make sure you save beforehand so that you may reload as many times as necessary, for I am sorry to tell you that it has been estimated the chance of winning the jackpot (you must play the slot machines, only the slots allow you to win this) has been estimated at 1 in 2899 by a trusted individual.

This achievement will require a lot, and I mean a lot, of reloading. And will need to come near the end point of a run when you have accrued enough parts to afford it.

Out of Gas!

Here we have the hardest achievement to gather in ‘Convoy’, and it will require a fair bit of trial and error. Upon travelling to shanty sands, ensure you save at the start of the event. You must enter the ex-torvak man’s house without knocking, if he is not there reload, if he is there try to disarm him.

The only result you wish to see from this has bright red text warning that you must shoot if you wish to survive, if you do not see this reload, if you do see this, do not shoot, and you will unlock the achievement (and also lose that particular run).

If you wish to continue your run, you will need to alt+f4 after unlocking the achievement and reload at the start of the event.
