This is for those of you who are struggling to achieve the 7-7-7 slot for the achievement.

First of all, I wouldn’t recommend going for 777 in a casual playthrough anyway because you cannot manipulate the RNG as easy as in the original game. Do this only to get the achievement or if you feel like it.

First Tip: Do not use “Auto Battle”

• While autobattling Slots works pretty well usually, giving you a high number of not only triple diamond but often the Airship Bomb attack, Joker’s Death does not appear very frequently. At least not the version you are looking for. You will most likely kill off your entire party because of Setzer casting Reverse Joker Death instead of normal Joker Death (The name is displayed the same but it is a different spell and does NOT count for the achievement).

A dead party wastes time as you need to reload, go into battle again, set up your auto fight.

Even if Setzer does not cast Reverse Joker Death to kill your party, he often kills the enemies with just “normal” attacking Slots – which requires you to win, walk around, enter another battle, etc… -> Wasting Time

Second Tip (the important one): Use Slots manually

• While you may not cast the single slots as quickly as when you just lay back and watch Setzer autofighting (killing your party), your chance of success is actually higher here. Also, you can pull this off in one battle. Really, one battle.

So basically, how manual slotting works:

• Abuse pause buffering until you hit the first 7. (press pause button / unpause) When you see the 7, hit action button.
• This will take a moment to learn but it is rather easy.

You only have to be careful to not hit Chocobo on the first slot – because this will end up with the two leftover slots automatically being filled with Chocobo and furthermore, Setzer will use Chocobo Bop (which could kill the enemy and waste time).

If you are able now to hit the first seven, now try learning hitting the second seven in the same way.

This is the point where you want to always be at.

Your slot looks like this now:

• 7-7- (blank)

This time it is a bit different though.

Repeat step one and use the pause buffering method to hit the third seven

Except

You now have an about >> 1 in 35 chance << to actually get the third 7. If game doesn’t want to give it to you, it gives you a diamond instead.

Repeat

Using this method, I got my Joker’s Death after merely 10 minutes of Slot pause buffering madness.
