Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition – Boss Guide (How to Fight)

You see these badasses in the cut-scenes, all menacing and unstoppable. But then, when you actually face off against them in the game, they’re like… totally different. It’s like they forgot their script or something and decided to go easy on you. So yeah, get ready to take down the “scary” version of the boss, and then deal with the real deal in the actual fight. It’s all part of the game, man.

Embassy Boss Fight

Regalla and her clan do a lot of killing in the cut-scenes, but even Vuadis could whoop some serious butt if he took them on outside the QTEs.

At one point in the battle, you’ll be positioned beside an archway with the enemy circling around you. Leave the archway and take up a position adjacent to a pond near Barren Light’s main gate. Then just pick them off. They pay far more attention to the defenders that remain near the archway than they do to the person sniping their merry-go-round battle formation. Well, that won’t do! Regalla decides it’s time to get serious by sending in her vaunted Champion to take on Aloy. Comedy ensues!

In the arena is a burning bridge and beside that bridge is a flowing river that empties into a basin. Run to that area immediately and stay as far ahead of the Champion as possible. The Champion has a lot of trouble with this section of the map. Position Aloy solidly behind the rubble pictured below. The oval area indicates the position the Champion occupies once he arrives. He remains there during the entire encounter, tossing spears at the rubble to no effect. If you do get hit, adjust slightly. He’ll keep wasting his ammo.

You’ll notice that the Champion takes on a buildup of fire damage throughout the encounter and regularly steps away to swat the engulfing flames. That alone might kill him, but it will take a very long time. Instead, step out from behind cover when he is alight and hit him with acid arrows. Then take cover again. Repeat the process. Down he goes!

Regalla thinks that’s an example of an honorable fight and grants you your life. She’s more concerned that a single combatant just easily gutted some of her highly trained warriors and decides to cut her losses.

Shadow In The West

Vezreh appears awesome because he can multitask by holding up his rail gun while directing orders at a Ravager he expects will protect him. He is positioned on an elevated platform. Ignore the Ravager and ascend the platform’s right-hand ramp. He will waste some ammo shooting at some obstacles that provide excellent cover just before you round those obstacles and attack him with your spear. Just keep attacking with your spear and never stop. It helps a lot if you back him against a wall or into a corner. He may push back at you, but his rail gun never gets used again. The Ravager never comes into play either.

After Vezreh is defeated, the Ravager just sits there glumly beside the left-hand ramp and passively absorbs your ammo before finally ascending the platform. He can be easily picked off before he does any serious damage.

Still, Vezreh is about to show you! If he can’t do squat in-game, he’ll murder you via a cut-scene. After all, he’s a killing machine like no other! You survive. You and Yef yawn in unison afterwards.
