Jumplight Odyssey – Gameplay Tips

Useful Tips

  1. Nuclears. I ended with 5, but new room with 2 can wait. When needed, set priority for engineers, or disable water production.
  2. Plastic. From the middgle of the nebula plastic will be the biggest problem, so you need Plastic Fabricator running from 1st day.
  3. For plastic and food you’ll need a lot of Biomass – for the start I had 5 Algae and 2 Peas, but in the middle of nebula I’ve filled the whole room with Algae (total 10) and placed 3 Wheat in second room. Later I’ve added 2 more Algae there and 2 more Wheat farms. I ended with 14 water condencers for them (13 in enlarged room + 1 in new one, was an overkill) – remember that if you’re short on power and have enough water, you can just turn off the power switch in the room.
  4. Science console is a must. Note that you have to be in Yellow Alert for scientist to operate it (well, he seem to visit console sometimes, but don’t work for long). Later you need to add 1 Auto Capacitor, 2 Cartridges, and after some time 2nd Auto-Capacitor. Depending on the map you might want one more Auto-Capacitor or Cartridge (I had extra Cartridge).
  5. 2 Robot shuttles. Remember that you also need a Robot Control module in the Flight Control Area for them. 2 at a time is enough – I lost 2 of them in nebula and had to rebuild them. They’re actually quite good at 60% salvage operations, and if they fail you can send them again. Dismantling 1 manual controlled shuttled is not a bad idea, but I suggest to keep another one.

Btw, I was losing them with full health and at 80% missions, so I’m not sure what really caused them to be lost…

  1. Therapy Booth. I was late with it and had 26 crew members in despair, but managed to build 2 of them in nebula. One of them can later be dismantled, so actually one should be enough.
  2. It is a good idea to place 2nd Galley in the front part of Lower Desk – this way if main one gets burned, this one would be operational. Nothing fancy, 2 kitchen and 1-2 tables.
  3. Note that 4 turrets on the lower desk don’t have power switches – just place them, and it’ll greatly boost your fire against Zutopans and asteroids. Actually, this is the 1st thing to build – cheap and extremely helpful.
  4. Chess players are crazy. I ALWAYS had fires when I had 2 chess tables nearby – and fire started at one of them. In both rooms where I had them. 1 chess table is enough for the whole ship. Want to boost morale? Try bookshelves, they’re better. Card table wasn’t really popular on my ship.
  5. Bunk beds are a good solution – I had 7 total at the end, but it really depends on your population. Mind that they burn easily.
  6. Soda machines near elevators keep crew hydrated. Placing oxygen generators around help recover after fires – just open doors to let fresh air fill the space.
  7. Repairing warehouse near Manufacturing is not a good idea. While it sounds good, they’ll be filled with useless Materials in no time.

Before you reach nebula I suggest to mostly stay in Yellow alert to force all processes. When you reach nebula, you can let eveyone relax – you’ll have time to repair and construct what you want, but it’s a pretty long area with nothing but ice and metals. You’ll get so much metal there, so you won’t need to produce it yourself. Next zone will be more friendly, but Zutopans will be much close. When you reach last area you’ll be able to make long jumps, and everything on ship would be stable – so you’ll be just waiting for JL to charge, sometimes fighting with Zutopans.

Remember that though Zutopans are bad and angry, you can easily fight with them for 3-5 extra ingame “hours” – which is enough to make a run for resources just before they arrive. And they won’t fly ahead while they fight you – so you’ll have full time after you finally make a jump. If you don’t trust turrets with depressed shooters, send a fighter.
