Jupiter Hell – Simple Survivor Guide 1.7

The most overrated mastery in the game? Or the workhorse of Jupiter Hell?

How to Survivor

Introduction

Survivor give you health regen and the ability to cheat death if your hit points (HP) at 25/20 (level 1/2) at the beginning of your turn. While the mastery has been nerfed, it is still good and forgiving of mistakes to those still learning the game. The key point is to maximize Angry Mother so that you are always getting the 75% damage boost as much as possible. In addition, you want your max HP to be large to give a comfortable buffer between the 25% hit point (max 40 when max HP is 160), and the death gates at 25/20 hit points.

Build Order and Trait Discussion

Recommended build order:

  1. Hellrunner.
  2. Angry Mother.
  3. Angry Mother.
  4. Tough as Nails.
  5. Survivor.
  6. Angry Mother.
  7. Ironman.
  8. Ironman.
  9. Survivor.
  10. Ironman.
  11. Tough as Nails.
  12. Tough as Nails (14-18. Covermaster/Hellrunner).

You can get Ironman 3 at level 10 instead if you find that you really need the bleed resistance.

Since you are going to be facing archwarlocks in Dante primarily, you can get a level of Hellrunner at level 12 or 13 instead.

Angry Mother 3 turns out to be really good because you are doubling your effective HP that is at 25% or below of your max health.

Ironman 3 is highly recommended because you have to be resistant to bleed, which prevents your health regeneration. One of the keys of this build to mitigate the three status effects that prevent regeneration (bleed, fire, and poison). While you can have an armor with the Meshed perk, one of the weakness of survivor is that your armor will get heavily damaged so you can’t rely on keeping any.

Tough as Nails will give some armor points in case your actual armor is non-existent, and it is an anti-archwarlock and regular medusa mitigation tactic.

If you are bleed and pain immune from the Conamara Chaos Biolabs (CCB), invest the points into Hellrunner and Covermaster.

Callisto

Rift is my recommended branch for poison immunity but any branch works since you are relying on damage through Angry Mother, not critical chance.

Pay close attention to the messages and if one of them mentions the Durashmesh Armor, grab it. Duramesh is a high priority item for Survivor builds because it will completely negate the biggest weakness of the mastery, which is heavy armor damage. Your health will regen but your armor won’t.

Europa and Io

Grab the Duramesh armor or the Necrotic armor f you see them mentioned in an email message.

Now while any branch can work even in Europa and Io, if there is no Durashmesh armor mentioned in Europa, my recommendation is to go to the guaranteed Europa Ruins and Shadow Halls for the demonblood power and ancient mods to add even more damage to your build. Do note that the Europa Ruins is the favored location for the Bloodletter, a weapon that most builds have to pass on, but it is one of the perfect weapons for Survivor.

If there are three levels of CCB and you have 9 multitools, you can consider the CCB as an alternative for the immunities.

Gear and Relics

One of the best reasons to play survivor is to use items most classes have to pass on because of their drawbacks but Survivor doesn’t care for them.

  • Bloodletter: Insane weapon with Survivor. Helps you stay at 25% health.
  • Cryoberos’s fang: Mass chill.
  • Kerberos’s heart: Permanent +50% damage and +40% move speed.
  • Medusa’s tentacle: Perpetual max dodge.
  • Toxiberos’ tusk: Honestly I never seen this relic in my survivor runs so not sure what it does.
  • Reaver’s heart: Better than you think because it allows health regen even when there are visible enemies, which Survivor doesn’t.
  • Reaver’s tendon: It’s just 15% movement speed since you are going for Tough as Nails 3 anyways.
  • Reminder: Durashmesh armor and Necrotic armor are high priority items.

Mod your rifles with the usual

  • 7.62 rifle: Speed-loader (bulk), Calibrate 1 (accuracy), auto-calibrate, with 1 wild card.
  • Plasma rifle: Speed-loader (bulk), auto-calibrate, with 2 wild cards.

Gameplay Tips

If you are under the death gate (25/20 HP), use adrenaline, the Marine skill, to heal yourself back above the death gate at instant speed.

Keep a melee weapon on you in case you need to fight in close combat, which is feasible because of bleed and pain immunity.

Because of Survivor, you can cut back on carrying healing items but prioritize utility items instead like phase kits and grenades. I do consider stim packs to be a utility items to guard them closely.

In close quarters combat, use gas or smoke grenades to break line of sight so you can heal if need to.
