Explanation of Riichi
In a match, when your hand is one tile away from winning, the Riichi button will pop up, but what does it mean?
Riichi is a Yaku that requires the player to be in Tenpai (one tile away from winning) and in Menzenchin (concealed hand). In Mahjong Soul, when Riichi is possible, the Riichi button will appear, and you can decide whether you want to declare Riichi or not.
After you click the Riichi button and discard a tile, you will pay 1000 points and enter the Riichi status. After declaring Riichi, before you win (either by drawing the winning tile or after another player discards your winning tile), the only thing you can do is draw tiles on your turn and discard them.
You can check whether any player is in Riichi status by looking at the center of the table. For players that have declared Riichi, there will be a Riichi bet and a tile placed sideways in front of them.
In Japanese Mahjong, Riichi is a very powerful Yaku. It can raise the winning points when combined with other Yaku, or it can give you a win on its own.
Upper: Without Riichi, a player can’t win when they get:
- …as it is No Yaku.
Lower: With Riichi, a player can win when they get:
- …with Riichi as Yaku.
I hope the above information was helpful. Happy gaming!
