For high pop, it’s easier to just do one city and go imperial / mound builders. I almost got to 15 if I had one more turn and only working about three farms at most and I was sitting at 200% sanitation, food, and housing? You’ll also want to research community pretty early on. Mound builders have a -50% pop discount which means you’ll also want to spam stone cutters or sawmills or whatever it takes to get tech points to get to that discount sooner.

You’ll also run into a sanitation issue which you can side step by building mounds which gives you culture which you’ll need to absorb outposts/local reforms which is pretty damn strong since it’ll boost your only city and increase its output by 50% or some such.

Utility Ship is the key. They can bring in tuna, which converts to 5 food without the need of city workers.

Reroll until you get coastal start. Get a Dock improvement ASAP, as the first Dock spawns a Utility Ship. Researching workers first helps with bonus improvement points. Proceed to Bronze Age and research Shipbuilding to enable spawn Utility Ship power. Take Mound Builders national spirit for early sanitation improvement. I took the Rationing but it wasn’t needed in the end, 5 tuna is already 25 food and I only need 30 food for maximum growth speed in size 15 city.

And don’t forget you need region level to grow your city.

Important note: Age of Kings is not unlockable in this public demo. Streamers have different version of the game though.
