Mortal Kombat 1 – Setting Up Appropriate Controller Button Layout

A fresh reminder to those who aren’t use to Xbox button layout and prefer they’re own controllers layout: Playstation controller, Switch controller etc.

This is more of a Playstation setup to those who prefer Playstation layout, but this still works the same for other controllers.

Starting Up

Let’s begin. This may be a refresher for many, but not many know about controller mapping to their liking depending on their controller. Personally I have a Playstation controller, so I would set it up for a Playstation.

But some options you can have tick if you have a Nintendo Switch controller, and same goes for any other controller. FYI, controller setting up works for any game, but it won’t always work for many, so this works for any game and doesn’t require DS4, or any other third party program.

Go to your library > Go to Mortal Kombat > Click the small gear to the far right of the “Play” button.

Disabling Steam Input

After opening up Mortal Kombat settings, head on over to the controller tab. After doing so, go ahead and disable steam input, by default it’s on default settings. This is essentially overriding the settings to your liking, instead of defaulting to XBOX button layout.

After finishing up the second step, go ahead and head on to the “Controller General Settings.” From here depending on what controller you’re trying to use do as follow.

Tick on “Enable Steam Input for Playstation controllers” or do that for any controller you have

This is the only option I have set up and it’ll start functioning when you start up the game.

Any errors beyond what was said in this guide is beyond my comprehension. I play with my controller plugged in.

Outcome

After everything is setup and you have the options to your liking, controller mapping should be setup every time you boot up the game, any random bugs that were to come up would most likely be related to the game or steam itself. But this is what works for me.

You can also just look up a Youtube tutorial if you like and they can guide you step by step and they’ll go more in depth into it. This won’t always work for everyone.

  1. Is this relevant for mk11? I did everything the same way, but when logging in game I press the buttons on the dualshock, but it doesn’t respond to clicks. And when I select default settings or steam input then dualshock respond clicks but with xbox buttons

    • This should work for Mk11 as well. pretty much any game that you would imagine is on console. As long as you disable the input for that game.

  2. Hey mate all work,in addition to the touch panel, I have already tried a lot of things and copied their gamepad settings from people and pasted them into the clipboard, everything works to no avail except the touch panel update the last thing through the wire that without the touch panel I was only able to return when I personally calibrated
