MythForce – How to Perfect Parry / Block / Dodge

This is one of the best parts of the game, if you get good at it.

What Are These Things?

Perfect Parry:

This is parrying an enemy with your dagger, and then riposting them. It can also sometimes knock an unyielding foe to their knees.

Perfect Block:

This is blocking an enemy at a very low cost. It also knocks an unyielding foe to their knees, guaranteed.

Perfect Dodge:

This is dodging an attack with invulnerability frames. Even if you are hit, you’ll take no damage.

How to?

Perfect Block/Parry:

The execution is simple, but the timing is difficult. You must block/parry the attack just before it lands. If you perfect parry, you will also riposte, with no further input from you.

The riposte always seems to hit, so you don’t have to worry about aiming.

Perfect Dodge:

The timing for this is harder to learn. The easiest way to practice is when an archer is shooting you. You will notice a white star appear on them, followed by a blue star.

Dodge just before the blue star shines, and you will perform a perfect dodge. Once you know the timing, you can do it to all attacks.

Good Things to Know

Dagger Mastery:

This turns your ripostes into guaranteed crits. The tooltip is wrong, so you’ll just have to trust me. With Dagger Mastery, perfect parrying becomes a very valid fighting style.

Unyielding foes:

These are enemies that cannot be flinched or staggered. Warchiefs, necrolytes, stuff like that. When you perform a perfect parry/block, this will bring them to their knees. You can then backstab them, during this state.

Be aware that ripostes sometimes set them free from this downed state, so they might quickly get back up. It’s inconsistent, and something that needs to be made more consistent.

What’s Cool About Them?

So, once you get good at perfect block/parry, they’re quite fun and useful. Naturally, you can bring down foes that can’t be brought down by any other means (very satisfying).

Also, it’s really nice to riposte an enemy in between combo, if multiple foes are attacking you.

Perfect Dodging is good for defense across the board. Avoid turning into a pin cushion of arrows, avoid AoE spells, etc.
