Peaks of Yore – How to Deal with Boulders

Tips to Deal with Boulders

I don’t really have many tips and tricks (that haven’t already been said), but there are three or four things that could potentially be useful.

  1. I recommend messing with the free aim setting. Some people have found that turning it off feels more consistent, but others haven’t had a problem leaving it on. It’s one of those things you have to test to know for sure. I’ve personally found it works better with it off.
  2. Use the stopwatch, if you have it. With how fast you have to be on some of these boulders, there’s a decent chance you’ll meet the time requirement for the time trial on some of them just by beating them once. It resets whenever you touch the ground, so feel free to just turn it on and keep trying until you beat the boulder for the first time. It’s not a 100% guarantee, but with the stopwatch out I only redo one of the boulders for the time trial just by trying to beat them all naturally. (The one boulder I had to redo was Old Skerry. You know, the one with that bird that probably frustrates you to no end).

There is a reward for completing all of the time trials on the boulders, although admittedly, I’m not sure how useful it actually is. I just think it’s worth setting the stopwatch on each boulder so there’s a chance you get the reward coincidentally.

  1. As a little extra, I want to overemphasize the importance of getting good at the slippery rocks. (Not the crimps, the actual slippery ones). If you get good at hoisting yourself up on them, you can stay on them indefinitely. I’ve gotten so comfortable with them that on advanced mountains, I’m willing to detach the rope while on one of them.
  2. If you absolutely just can’t handle the intermediate boulders and desperately want to move on to the advanced mountains (which you may or may not come to regret), there are two paths forward. The first is to complete five intermediate boulders. The second is to complete all of the fundamental peaks. Every. Single. One. I believe this was just added in a update today, but if you complete all of the fundamental peaks you should unlock the advanced mountains without having do any of the intermediate boulders.
