Guide to Dedicated Server Migration

Collect Your Current Dedicated Server Files/Settings

In your current dedicated server you will need the following files:

  • Server configuration file (if you have customized your settings)
    • Copy the following file (PalWorldSettings.ini) and store it on your computer.
    • If Windows dedicated server:
      • steamapps\common\PalServer\Pal\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\PalWorldSettings.ini
    • If Linux dedicated server:
      • steamapps/common/PalServer/Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini
  • World save:
    • steamapps\common\PalServer\Pal\Saved\SaveGames\0\
  • The world save will be a long string of letters and numbers like:
    • 77E83DCD469E35E41315FFAC2F27E7C6
  • Copy the entire long string folder to your computer.

Prepare New Server

  • Setup your new dedicated server and run it. It will generate a new save file and settings.
  • Shutdown/stop the server.

Copy/Upload Your Save File to Your New Server

Now you will want to copy/upload your server settings and your save file. Finally you will then also modify the GameUserSettings.ini file to reference your old save folder.

  • Upload your server settings from part one. Use whatever upload mechnism your dedicated server supports (FTP, SFTP, etc.). How to do that is beyond the scope of this guide.
    • If your new server is a Linux server, place your PalWorldSettings.ini file in:
      • steamapps/common/PalServer/Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/
    • If your new server is a Windows server, place your PalWorldSettings.ini in:
      • steamapps\common\PalServer\Pal\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\
    • overwrite any existing file
  • Upload your world save to:
    • steamapps\common\PalServer\Pal\Saved\SaveGames\0\
  • Finally, edit the following file (GameUserSettings.ini):
    • If your new server is a Linux server, the file will be here:
      • steamapps/common/PalServer/Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/GameUserSettings.ini
    • If your new server is a Windows server, the file will be here:
      • steamapps\common\PalServer\Pal\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\GameUserSettings.ini
    • You will want to change
      • DedicatedServerName=
    • to match the folder name of your save file. It will be the long string of characters you had in the first section. e.g.
      • DedicatedServerName=77E83DCD469E35E41315FFAC2F27E7C6
  • Run your new server and connect.
