Predecessor – Kallari Guide with Tips

How to Play Kallari

By Rei

Kallari is a very difficult Hero to choose when learning a different role. Would definitely recommend starting with Khaimera in the jungle to learn the basics, Gideon in Midlane, and Grux/Zarus/Greystone in Offlane.

Not to say you can’t throw yourself in the deep end with Kallari, but she requires both a lot of mechanical skill and understanding of power spikes and gank timings to pull off consistently otherwise its easy to overgank or overfarm and fall behind. One little mistake can set you back too.

Now if you do want to seriously try and learn Kallari for Jungle (she can play Offlane too but this is even harder), the quickest pointers I can give you are the following:

  • Always buy Malady 1st item to increase your clear speeds while offering some additional scaling damage.
  • Try to get used to early pressure ganking by ganking at Level 3 at least once after clearing 3-4 camps (don’t waste too much time though). After youre comfortable with this you can mix it up further in more creative ways.
  • If you do gank a lane early game and blow their blink, try to re-gank it within the next 5 minutes.
  • Kallari struggles to farm camps before Malady, its okay to skip a camp and come back to after if you spot a good gank opportunity (kills will get you to Malady faster than farming).
  • As a general Jungling rule: if your ultimate is up, look to gank – if the enemy wasted their ults, force an objective fight.
  • Ganking full health enemies will rarely result in a kill early game. You may get their blink (which is super valuable to do), but sometimes it’s better to farm a camp and move around the map for a better gank target.
  • Don’t worry about invading enemy jungle while you learn – just keep up your farm and ganks.
  • Daggers deal the majority of your damage, hitting them is very important.
  • In standoffs, dont be afraid to poke with daggers and death mark – killing someone from 60% health is 10x easier than from 100% so work them down and re-engage once your cooldowns are back.

Kallari can chain together attacks well – use her Dagger and Camo as a basic attack reset to get 2 quick hits off in succession and increase your overall dps (try it in practice mode: Basic Attack > Dagger > Basic Attack). Using your basic attacks is often required to get kills in the later stages of a match.

It’s okay to die when trying to improve. Kallari has to play aggressive to be successful – each time you mess up just think about how you could’ve played the fight better.

Be annoying: wait for your opportunity to approach from a flank in fights – the enemy is scared of you and you staying hidden or revealing yourself on a flank makes it difficult for their carries to walk up and expose themselves due to your inherent pressure. Typically their backline will get impatient and expose themselves. – When they do, dump your kit on the fragile targets – even if you don’t kill them 100-0, it’s okay, as long as they’re low they can’t play the fight easily anymore and you can reposition to help your team. And if they don’t expose themselves, guess what, they’re looking at you and not at your team on the other side of the fight as you poke them with daggers.
