Steel Republic Rail Defender – Gameplay FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What determines limits on resources needed to build defences?

Resources take equipment and time to bring to the home station. More time is required to produce resources like Steel, which has to be run in batches from Ore and Fuel. There is a limited restock rate at the Ore, Fuel, and Troops supply stops. To build defenses, upgrades, and train cars you will need to source from further out on the map.

The enemy will be out there firing on your resource trains, so it is important to gain control over more of the map area.

The “Strategic Metals” are only earned when enemy units die close to a base structure. This resource is required for your offensive rail units.

Does the player control the turrets, or this is like tower defence?

The turrets will fire on thier own at whichever enemy comes into range. The same for armed rail car units. The only firing the player has to control is the Railway Gun unit, which has to be given a targeted area. It then continues to shell that position, with some RNG on the zone of damage.

How large are the maps?

The first level map is simpler in layout, with additional resources being further out from home. Some of the maps have multiple track branches to resources stops, so you will need to decide which areas to control. For directly sending teains close to the enemy base there are going to be choices of stops to route through.

Can the player lay different train lines, or are these fixed?

All the track network is pre-built and fixed in this first iteration of the game. Building new track is a priority feature on my list of goals, but needs a lot more work.

What is approx game play duration based on the content provided with day 1 release?

The first six maps may take an hour each depending on how quick you are to pick up good strategies. The end game is achieved by knocking out the enemy HQ in 5 of the maps. To do this requires building up weapons to attack with and that takes some time.
