Tiny Rogues – How to Be More Consistent on the Runs

Tips to Be More Consistent on the Runs

General

A good weapon and/or trait synergy is actually part of the consistency you’re looking for. There are some perks in the meta progress tree that can at least help you figure out what kind of build you might work towards earlier. I like having the perk that makes it so I only need 1 exp to level up early because it lets me get my first trait very early and the exp penalty for subsequent levels isn’t that huge since there is more than enough exp in the game. Also works well with the perk that lets you get a free reroll on your first trait selection of the run.

Thief in the Shadows and the related perks can help you try and get ahead in early levels where bosses have easy patterns so you can no-hit them. It’s a gamble and may not be as good as more consistent power available elsewhere in the tree, but it can sometimes get you really nice rewards very early in your run that can ease the midpoint of the run.

As for knowing if a weapon is good or not, a lot of that just comes to experience and learning which weapons you like. As a general rule though, you want it to scale with the stat(s) you’re strong in, and you can judge relatively easily with the damage per shot and how many shots per second if its a pure DPS upgrade or not. Do pay attention to the weapon range as well, a weapon of at least Medium range is a lot easier to use than the shorter ranges, and if you get Far or Very Far you can back off to a corner for the really hard to dodge boss phases and buy yourself more time to see the pattern.

Leveling is extremely powerful. Traits have a significantly smaller pool of options and no rarity system, so you are vastly more likely to get the powerful ones. That means food is the highest priority almost regardless of what it is (although salad can be an occasional annoyance and curses are still something you’d prefer to avoid), and getting the Mastery perk that increases the reward for blowing stuff up will make normal shrines even better than food if you have the bomb to spare (2 levels at the cost of no stats, which is barely a cost because the stats weren’t the primary reason you were taking them).

The only thing more important than levels is staying alive, so if you’re low on health or armor then go ahead and prioritize things that recover or increase it. I shouldn’t have to say that, but some people get too greedy and die. This is fine, but you asked for consistent wins so we’re ignoring that playstyle.

Obviously, if you’re out of keys or bombs then your next priority is fixing that. Dice are also always good because they give you more choices. Events can be iffy (unless you are the Wanderer and still have his coat equipped, in which case you can see the above paragraph about levels), but I take them because I want to see everything this game has to offer.

Other Tips

  • Start with dice. Dice let you get a more consistent start and let you pull for specific synergy traits. Get more dice whenever feasible.
  • On floors 1 and 2 I’d prioritize bombs, keys, whichever foods you want to run with, and get at least one weapon upgrade because floors 3 and 4 are a slog with starter weapons. I ignore gold rewards on those floors; you don’t need gold early and the floor 1 and 2 gold rewards are smaller.
  • By floor 4 I want to have at least 1 good trait I can start a build around or otherwise have an idea of what to build towards – maybe I lucked into an epic weapon, maybe I got a great companion, etc. Then I try to focus on finding synergies for traits, items, etc. for whatever that is. Sometimes I end up changing my strategy midway through because whatever I RNG into pushes me into a different direction, but there’s always a direction.

Some fairly easy synergies to try:

  • Int build + more crit% + fast melee/ranged weapon + Cast on Crit.
  • lightning everything – there’s lots of lightning traits and lightning trigger items; chain lightning is especially good and stacks a lot.
  • Anything that makes all your attacks crushing blows (point blank + heavy quiver, titan’s ring, etc.).
  • Boozer + hearts / oktoberfest set / cheese.
  • Brawler + Ancestral Aid + any other companion boosts.

  1. just dodge, you can build for getting a few extra stamina bars and already it makes most rooms a breeze if you have bad rng with items

  2. For more consistent runs you can pick the Dice Set as your bonus items at run start. Dice allow you to reroll everything from rooms over trait-selection and rewards, as well as replacing already traits to adjust your strategy mid run.

    – Grabbing the meta-progression perk that grants an extra golden dice upon dice room rewards also can be of great value to re-roll rooms that guarantee epics or legendaries, here you can also pick
    – the meta progression perk that makes ALL offered items have said rarity if the room guarantees a rarity.
    – Finally, you can pick the meta perk that raises the chance of similar traits to the ones you already picked. While this does hinder some crazy combinations, it ensures synergy and consistent runs.
