Abiotic Factor – How to Play Solo: Tips, Military Engagements and Resources

Guide to Play Solo

Before You Start Solo Playthrough

If you go solo make sure to ask your self if your a pack rat or a an adventurer because you will need to build around that fairly early.

The difference is easy:are you going to constantly collect the same stuff repeatedly/carry till over burdened if so pack rat pick: strength focus with fany pack with debuff to food and water (you should be able to get the food and water easily and may even cram some space for extra).

If you are away from base for long periods exploring and finding new recipes then you are an adventurer pick: choose stealth and/or sprinting options along with lead bell to stay in the field longer and to keep make shift stove and shiv on you for cooking.

Maybe best to pick up the +3 melee damage perk and even the 3 starter bandages just a nice head start to exploring.

These are 2 of my personal favorite set ups for solo but just experiment and find what works through some trial and error.

Solo Military Engagements

My style has been melee 90% of the time with some range from time to time just for the sake of levelling accuracy & reload.

Your weapons and armor will play a huge role, F.O.R.G.E. Armor set shines against them because of it’s set effect of bullets bouncing of you if you want a more head-on approach and just tank everything.

If you don’t have access to it yet, then try your best and dodging gunfire and staying in a position where only 1 or 2 can see you at time, of course they will keep moving so you will have too as well.

Once in melee range, just simply beat him down fast before they can run away, I personally use spears, their base DMG is meh, but they make up for it for that extra range, fast attacks cause one-handed, and later spears past the makeshift one gain additional effect damage on top of their base damage.

I always carry a shield on me as well, useful to block incoming fire if caught in the open or flanked, but don’t rely on them to much because they seem to break quite fast.

When initiating your first hit, try to sneak up on them and get a sneak attack in, at later levels of sneaking you can one-shot a soldier sometimes without alerting the others. If it doesn’t succeed, then regardless, you got the jump on them and got close to at least one of them and did some free damage already

Of course, use any method you prefer, any weapon you prefer, I simply more or less explained how I personally deal with them solo up against multiple soldiers at once. But if it doesn’t suit you, just experiment and see what suits you more.

How to find forge armor recipe

You just need to explore and find an item, Steel Cable I think, then craft Reinforced Hose, and that should unlock you the Forge armor set ideas to learn. May need Rebars too, but don’t remember exactly what procs the recipe to unlock.

Important note

Those mercs are weak to sharp weapons and strong against blunt weapons so get those spears right away. Learn how to jiggle; somehow they got aim so terrible that its almost impossible for you to get hit when you keep strafing around.

The problem is when you are fighting in close spaces; you will have to eat some shots so get the health serum on standby. The mercs start to get manageable when you have access to the sawdisc launcher which is stupid strong and have good ammo capacity. To get the blueprints for that youll have to get chains which is located in the digsite inside long and thinner wooden boxes.

Resources

Better ways to get water

When you get to the area after office complex, you can find barrels and a bucket somewhere, pick up the barrel and take it back to your base. Hold the bucket with you whenever you go out and use it on the office water tanks and then you will slowly fill your barrel up.

The newest patch fixed the sinks, meaning they should now be full of safe water every few days.

Personally, I just took the lead belly perk. Just being able to drink from fountains, pools, etc. Has been a blessing and leaves the limited clean water for other players and plants.

When you progress to the third main area of the game you can unlock a crafting recipe for a water filter. This makes water incredible easy to get as any tainted water you put in the filter instantly gets purified at a 1:1 ratio.
