Millennia – Diplomacy Explanatory Guide

Diplomacy Explained

You can keep tabs on them through the Diplomacy Screen, just hit that flag button up in the top right. From there, you can start throwing out some Diplomatic Actions to either cozy up or distance yourself from these nations.

But hold your horses! You gotta send an Envoy to their region first to open up negotiations properly. Once you’ve done that, the whole arsenal of Diplomatic Actions unlocks.

Now, when it comes to Diplomatic Demands, those are like throwing down the gauntlet. You demand something, and they gotta give in or prepare for war. Straightforward, right? If they decline, well, it’s time to gear up for some action.

Relations with other nations are crucial. They range from negative, meaning they probably want to smash your face in, to positive, where they might just send you a gift basket. Remember, after you make a move on the diplomatic front, you gotta cool your jets for three turns before you can try again.

Now, let’s talk about Open Borders and Declaring Hostilities. Open Borders means you and the other nation can stroll into each other’s territories without getting into a scuffle. Declaring Hostilities, on the other hand, means it’s open season on their units if they’re in neutral territory.

But if things get too hot, there’s always the option to Declare War. Just be warned, it’s gonna stir up some Unrest in your regions, and your trade routes with the enemy will get shut down faster than you can say “peace treaty.”

Sometimes, though, you can make a Justified War, which softens the blow a bit. And if you’re feeling extra chummy, why not form an Alliance? But remember, that’s like being joined at the hip in every conflict.

Ah, Envoys, the unsung heroes of diplomacy. Sending one of these bad boys into another nation’s region opens up a world of possibilities. You can grease the wheels with a little gift, try to smooth things over with an Improve Relations action, or straight-up demand some coin, an end to their wars, or even a religious conversion. And if they refuse? Well, you know what to do. Justified War, here we come!
