Dead Island 2 – Connecting to Epic Online Services Issue [Fixed]

Quick and easy guide to get past that annoying “Connecting to Online Services” bug that happens, after you link your Epic Games Account with Steam — online play is not effected.

Fixing the Epic Services Connection Issues: Quick and Simple

So, probably like me, you thought it would be a fantastic idea to link your accounts to the Epic Services when booting it up for the first time. Then, in typical fashion, where greeted with an endless loop of “connecting to Epic Online Services.”

We’ll, this guide is here to save the day. I couldn’t find anything on this, but I’ve made a quick and simple guide for you to hopefully fix the issue. It takes 2min to do.

Quick Steps

Head to Epic Games. Hover over your profile icon in the top right of the screen, and click on account.

You should see a section called Apps and Accounts

You would have linked your Steam with Epic, which is why you are here.

Unlink Steam here.

Linked Account Warning Confirmation

When attempting to unlink my account from steam I’m greeted with a “I will not be able to connect my Epic Games Account to another Steam account” statement I need to confirm.

Can you confirm this just means I won’t be able to connect a different account? I’ll be able to re-link the same account, right?

When un-linking your Steam Account via the Epic Games, you will be greeted with this warning. The short answer, yes, you will be un-linking it for the duration you wish too. You can re-link your account at a later date if you would like too – this includes different Epic Games Accounts.

Just stick the 4x Boxes, remove account, and you are good to go.

I’ve confirmed this myself.

End Result

Now launch Dead Island 2 like normal.

You will be greeted with a message along the lines of:

  • “Would you like to connect your account to the Epic Services.”

I would highly advise just clicking ESC and ignoring it for the future. Not unless you want to wind up back here again.

Linking Epic Accounts

If you do want to try in the future, you can link them in the settings.
